So sad about this, so wanted black buckling to be herd sire, but hormones raging around here must come to an end, Boys hollering too much for town whether they are yelling for moms or girls.
This a.m., getting buckskin buckling in other pen, I tripped. Very lucky, only minor (if there is such a thing) break in my left upper arm. Could have hit my head on concrete blocks or broken my neck on the tipped over bench. Also the last thing to do before leaving for meeting and had my cell phone in my pocket so could get help. So in the overall scheme of things, I was very, very lucky. Typing one-handed stinks, however!
Friend may take bb for breeding and we'll butcher afterward. Hope she does, it will give her all new bloodlines in her herd.

I can relate. I fall often - thank goodness no broken bones! I have logs at the base of a gate for the rubbing attempt to push the gate open! Add to that a tarp to cut the "visual" of the does from the bucks from the gate (no hot wire there) - I find those hidden logs often - the other day I ended up on my butt - but didnt spill the grain. ^^ yep, we all need to take care of all the stuff we have laying around! My barn is a obstacle course - for me that is.
Sounds wonderful! :) I'm getting ready to make cream cheese for the first time soon. I made feta, and all of us were sad today when the last of it was gone. :( It was really excellent around day 7, but we'd already eaten most of the 1.5 lbs I got before that day came. It was good, but very mild in flavor before that. Can't wait to try the cream cheese. :)
Oh yes, lots of ice cream! Good supply of cream cheese as well. Made jack a couple of weeks ago but don't think it was right but waxed it and put it into a cooler in my joke of a basement. It is time to check it but I am *not* going down those narrow steps so will have to have someone else bring it up for me to check - maybe by a stroke of luck it will be good. I cut it into wedges before drying and waxing for different lengths of time. I am considering entering cream cheese in the fair if I get a good batch then. What a thought for someone who 5 yeas ago would not have even tasted goat milk! It was the delicious milk from Joann's goats that put me on this road!
In the freezer now is vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream! Yes, Deborah and Margaret, it is 50 percent strawberries.
Congratulations on all the milk! :) I see ice cream...
Thank you for the good wishes. It does matter.
Boys all banded; did not feel the least bit bad - pain does that to you! Wish I had them banded when they were tattooed, then I wouldn't have a broken wing. Trying to remember this is minor in the overall scheme of things.
Assessment: One boy from Capri and two boys and one girl from Summer. The girl will stay; she should be a great milker if anything like her mom this year,
Summer seems to be weaning the boys - maybe she has not liked their behavior. Fine with me; 3 cups from her this morning and 2 from Capri. Looks like Summer will be giving me at least a quart a day; so different than last year.
Oh Glenna, I am so sorry! I guess we are getting old and clumsy or something! LOL! I too did that dance last week.
I backed out of the feed room, down 2 steps, put my foot on a puppy who is my shadow, jerked my foot off of him and twisted my ankle a bit which threw me off balance, I proceeded to land on my butt hit my back on a pallet gate and hurt both hands on the ground. Thought I had broke my right hand, right under my thumb, which I had already shattered (from my elbow down through my wrist and thumb) about 8 years ago but doc says I just strained the ligs in it and if I wear a brace for 2-4 weeks and "don't over do it" (haha) it will be ok, but that if I damage it more it might require surgery!
So ain't we just a clumsy pair! If we were together, I could type left handed and you could type right and we would do good!
I can't take time for no surgery and healing so I am trying to be careful but it is so hard NOT to do stuff. I am just not the type! I make a few more trips to the feed room and don't carry quite as much weight at one time. Try to get the kids to help grab groceries etc. a little more than usual and look around the yard longingly at all the stuff I have waited all winter to do! HaHa!
Haven't been milking at all, just letting my little man nurse, he is a piglet that seems to be nursing both sides and mom looks even, so I am just going to hope that after I return home in a few weeks, after Williams Ranger Graduation, I will be able to milk her. I am going to try using a breast pump some 'til I learn better. I don't know if she holds back on me or what (pretty sure she does) but I get some milk and then I can't seem to get anymore, and I can tell there is still plenty left. I figure once I pull Theodore off of her she will get use to him not nursing and give it to me easier then. I hope! I am going to wait until after my granddaughter is born in August to pull him. He should be about 12 or 13 weeks when she is due and since my daughter in law almost died the last time and is having some of the same symptoms now, I thought it would be smart to keep him nursing just in case I need to go up and help out or until I run up to see Aubrynn Rayne Langley, after she makes her appearance. Then I can pull him and milk regularly!
Glenna, please take it easy on that arm, I know how hard it is, but we really have to be careful if we don't want to be in worse shape than we are. Just take the opportunity to sit back and observe all your girls enjoying their lives and playing and leave all you can til after you are all better! or til your son can come help you out at least! Thank God for our children's help when we need it!
Hope all works out well for your bucklings! What exactly do you have left from your kids? Do you still have your doeling?
Oh, Glenna! Hugs to you, and the boys. Glad one of the may be a sire and carry on the bloodlines. It's so much fun seeing how they perform. :) Speedy healing to that arm!
