Hello all!
Found this forum dedicated to Nigerians and joined to interact with others who love these little guys!
I just moved up to Southern Oregon a couple months ago and was lucky to get a place with 5 fenced acres of pasture and brush. So I immediately went in search of some goats. I've wanted to have goats all my life but my mom wouldn't let me get one when I was a kid, so my midlife crisis was getting goats!
I started out with some Pygmy goats, which led to adding in a Mini Nubian and her wethered buckling. Then finally I found what I had been looking for some Nigerians. I went to purchase a buckskin buck and came home with 4 others because my mom feel in love with a little week old doe kid (funny how now she likes goats at 89 years of age). So my herd of goats is now up to 10 with the 5 new additions.
I'm still learning and pretty much do daily research to see what others are doing for herd management. My plans are to start milking after I build a milking stand, and adding another buck in the future.
Thanks for letting me join and I look forward to chatting with everyone!

Welcome!!! You'll love it here.
And Congratulations on your 5 new NDG's. Nigerians are the best!!! =D
Also, my breeder lives in Myrtle Creek, just a little North of Canyonville... and there's another breeder in Rogue Valley. Good places to start looking for a buckling.
I'll have to call you the next time I'm down your way! :) We're nearly neighbors.
Looks like great therapy! Maybe this just added a whole year to grannys life. You never know! My best to you all. Have fun and stay tuned in to the forum, whatever you do. Great people here and loads of help and support. Later, girl!
I've been thinking of the diaper. But s0 far when she comes in she gets her special towel placed under her and she has not had an accident yet (crossing fingers). Precious (my mother named her) is 15 days old today and already spoiled rotten!
She and the doeling are both just precious, and I love her way of making deals. The more, the merrier, as they say. It is a VERY appropriate saying when referring to NDs. You let that sweet momma keep her inside all she wants. You may need to diaper that doeling, cause grandma may never let her go, from the looks of her! LOL!
I'm in Eagle Point down by Medford. Love it here! Small town feel yet close enough to the city I don't have to worry about medical care for the elderly mom (who now lives with me).
Here is my mom with HER little orange and white doeling. Yes it gets to come in the house something she would of never thought of back when I wanted to get goats. LOL the only reason I came home with 5 Nigerians is because she was not going home without that doeling. So made a deal for the mom/kid, another adult doe who is bred back to the buck I got, and a doeling that is 4 months old (my avatar) and a daughter of the same sire. So next year I need to find a buck as half of the girls are my bucks kids.
Well, I am in southern Alabama, but sooo happy for you and can sympathize with the eighties mom issue, me too! I got the animal love from my dad, not my mom. The baby of 7 and daddies little girl it was always us against mom, when it came to critters and we always won. He has been dead over 20 years now and I have instilled the love for animals in my own 7 children. Momma does seem to think they are cuter now in her old age. She actually, has not fussed about our getting our herd. She usually does, every time I get some critter. Maybe she is to tired to now, or perhaps she is finally resigned to it not mattering what she says any more. Anyway, I am just tickled that your mom is coming around. I am sure she will love this and wish she had done it when you were a child. But with goats, it is never too late.
Welcome!! Where in Southern Oregon are you? I'm just outside Canyonville.
