Kelp meal

Today at my local feed store I was told of a local business selling Kelp. When I looked them up online there kelp meal was listed as a supplement for plants and gardens. Is this the product that I am looking for. Is there anything that I should be looking for when buying kelp. It was surprisingly reasonably priced. At $40.00 for 50 lbs. and no shipping fee would be great. There website is

Thanks for the help. I love to buy small business whenever possible.

  • Thanks guys, it definitely puts the price up there when adding in shipping. But it will work great for me. I found the kelp chips and that was just what I was looking for. Thanks for double checking it for me. :)

  • If you're worried about food grade, inquire with the company, and ASK them if it's the same!! The ingredients say "KELP" it's not like we're talking about diatomaceous earth here.  (where there is a HUGE difference between pool grade and "food grade") and even then, garden grade can be fed to animals. I've done that. The key is to ASK and make sure what you're giving is the same thing, just with a different label. (although in this case, the one with the label you *want* is the price you want.) Try a local garden center! I get smaller batches, which are a little more spendy by weight, but more affordable broken down.)

  • Upon taking a second look, it's not that great of a deal.  Adding on the shipping, it became $80.72 for 50 lbs. with shipping added.  Bummer.

  • Wow!  That seems like a really nice price.  I can't remember for sure what I paid last time, but I think it was about $80 for 50 lbs.

  • I would get the animal kelp, to make sure it is of a food grade.

  • Thanks! I will have to order some.  I asked my local feed store if they could order some and he told me it would be 150.00 for 75lbs.  That is too steep for this frugal person!  But at this price :0)  Thanks ladies

  • Also, the kelp for animals is less expensive if I read the price vs. weight right on the two.

  • I just noticed that they have animal kelp listed too. http://www.vitaminseaseaweed.com/kelp-chips-large-animal-supplement/ and the kelp used is the exact same.

  • The ingredients say that all it is, is Kelp. I would use it. I use kelp of the "garden" variety too. My goats love it.
