I need kidding help now please.

My goat kidded around 7 am this morning.  She appears to still be in labor and every 20-30 min or so gives a couple of pushes.  She is laying down and tired.  And looks as though there is at least one more kid in her.  I don't know what to do!  I tried to call my vet but the number is disconnected so I need to search around and see if I can find a new one.

  • No, we're just going through a bad year. Most years, I don't lose any at all.

glad all is well.  I am still waiting - she technically isnt due for 5 more days.  I have noticed she is pooping ALOT today - and it is much more wet looking instead of the usually dry looking black pearl poops.  One thing I know for sure - we're getting close.

I am beginning to think loosing a kid out of multiple births maybe isnt so unusual. -(

  • Wow, that's awesome!
  • Sorry I wasn't here, Anna, but I'm so glad everything turned out okay! When moms have a traumatic birth, it really is not uncommon that they reject the kid or kids. As you know, we had a c-section yesterday, and we are all so excited that Caboose immediately bonded with her kids when she woke up from the anesthesia.
  • So glad everything ended up ok :)
  • I am glad your doe and kids are doing well. As long as the kids can suck a bottle it should be easy enough to do. I had real issues getting one of my doelings to suck the bottle and eat enough, it was a real pain. I recently aided in my first two goat births. One of which I had to go in, it really was not as horrific as one might think. It did take me a few minutes to figure out what all I was feeling, but I was able to get the boy out. I was worried when you said it was 20 0r 30 minutes between pushes. So glad to hear she's alright.
  • I found the vet's number.  I was too scared to go in myself.  :-/  We brought her in and the vet had a heck of a time getting the goats out.  The one was sideways and trying to come out her spine.  But, all are doing well except for the fact that the mom has rejected for sure one of the goats and most likely two.  :-/
  • This reply may be too late but if not you have to put on some gloves and some KY and get your hand in there to see what is going on. Have to get those kids out! Give your doe a big dose of nutri-drench to help give her energy to keep pushing.  I'm sorry you're having trouble, I hope everything works out! Keep trying to find a vet!
  • I don't know enough to help, but thought I'd let you know that, according to her Twitter, Deborah is at the vet for a c-section on one of her goats so she probably won't be on here anytime soon. If you can't find a vet I know there is lots of information online about trying to turn/untangle stuck kids if you're up for it. You might not have a choice if you can't find anyone else to help. Good luck!
