Disbudding

I know I read a few discussions on disbudding and now I can not find them, so again.
When is the best age to disbud a Nigerian? My buck is 11 days old now. Also, was the size of
the disbudding iron 1/2 inch or 1/4 inch.  I would appreciate any help in this area.

  • I thought so, but just wanted to make sure.  when I got her home - i think he gave her too much anesthetic, cause she just kept sleeping - i woke her up after bout an hour.  in the meantime, I tattooed her ears - and the first one went awesome - she was sleeping right through it - i had her laying on the kitchen counter, then with the right ear it was just an awkward position - i tattooed through the web - and she hollered!  I almost retattooed but decided against it - i am going to register her, but thought unless i was going to show her - it wouldnt matter anyway??  he was so nice - I asked about how long she would be sleeping and he thought she would be awake 5 min. later on the way home - not..... anyway, i mentioned tattooing and he thought it was an awesome idea -he went and got his kit and talk about sanitary - everything was just thrown in a box - lol.  anyway, all he had was huge letters so probably saved me some money...... i was concerned about that.  anyway, he said if I had brought the kit and letters I could've tattooed right there.  keep that in mind.

melissa check the boys head today if he does not have a bump there he is most likely polled. When I was over his head felt very smooth. Bucks tend to get bumps very quickly. Let me know if he is polled

Yes, April is our biggest month for snow, and this year has been our biggest snow year in 20 years.   Usually it doesn't accumulate much though, just snows and melts.  We have four seasons:

Summer for the month of July and maybe August, then almost winter, then winter, then mud =)  Boy oh boy, do we enjoy that summer weather!!!

  •  Where are you? It was upper 60's today and sunny at my house...

  • Sounds normal. The scab falls off after about four weeks, and the skin is pink underneath. Is there pus? Is it stinky? You can also post a picture, if you like.

It's possible.  There is no little point in the middle like there was before.  So then it's normal?  Should I take a picture and put it on here?
