  • Ok, so I measured 3 big glugs and it's a cup of ACV.
  • Hi...I also forgot...GREAT for kidding, Potassium helps to open up the blood vessels, and makes it easier to give birth,ACV is high in Potassium! And scientific measurements are not really needed...3 good glugs tells ya what ya need to know!

Will try to come up with a more scientific measure than glugs. I give six goats two 5 gallon buckets of vinegar water daily, warm in the winter, cool in the summer. Chickens have a 5 gallon waterer and get same 3 big glugs. The goats love it and my buckling meets me excitedly a the gate to get the first sips. They love it, it's good for them and and a very inexpensive way to keep them in good health. The comment on the stones is one benefit I forgot to point out. These lovely guys are worth the little effort it takes!

With regard to your 3 big glugs to a 5 gal bucket of water. Is this the sole source of water and when they drink it up do you then refill with the vinegar water mix again? And how much and how do you give it to the chickens?thanks

Here' what I know about apple cider vinegar, it has been used for good health since ancient Egypt. I started using it 15 years ago after a bout with lyme disease. This past summer I had a physical and routine blood work done. I am 43 years old and the Dr. said I have the blood work of a 20 yr. old woman. I have always figured if it does me good, it will do my animals good. I give it to my chickens and they lay all year long and give double yolkers most of the time. I live in a very cold climate and most people here see a reduction in egg production in the winter, I do not. My girls lay like crazy all winter long. I give it to my dogs - 10 and 11 year old female, large mixed breed. They had blood work done in November and vet had same reaction as my doctor regarding my own blood work. As for the goats, they just plain love it I give 3 big glugs in a 5 gallon bucket of warm water. They act like kids drinking hot cocoa. We have happy goats with shiney coats! As for producing more does, we shall see! Let's all keep in touch on this one!

  • Ditto Debra Rock!
  • the nutritional benes are LARGE, BUT an additional benefit is that it acidifys the urine and cuts out stones, which could be a real problem, especially for the boys...chcikens require a largely acidic diet...so it is good for them, too.

  • We used to put apple cider vinegar in our HORSES water but it was done to help keep flies away...not sure how well it worked (black flies up here in VT are pretty legendary...)
  • Well Deb, I'll let you know how it works when we kid in the Spring. Daryl was talking to a couple breeders at a show this last Summer and they swore the vinegar in the water produced more Doe kids. I don't believe it but that is what they told him and he wanted to try it so he is. It might have some clensing effect on the reproductive organs but I don't believe it will improve the number of Doe to Buck ratio. I count every year at the end of kidding season and our ratio is close to 50 - 50. If it has a clensing effect we might see more multiple births, thats a posibility. I'll know more after we kid in the Spring. Vicki
