I think she would like the peppermint if she wasn't so annoyed by the teat infusions. I know I sure like it on my hands. It does make her hairy udder gookie until I wash her down befor milking. Should I shave her, I hate to put her through more aggrivation. Tonight we will do the last infusion, wait a few days and test again. I will continue pennicillin for another day. I think the lump I'm still feeling is where I jabbed her when she jumped the other day because the other ones are gone. I hope it clears.
Dianea, I got the instructions for the hand milker you described. I put it together and it didn't work. I could not get a good seal on the udder. The instructions called for a 35 ml syringe and, it seemed too big for my Nigerian Doe so I reduced syringe to 20 ml. Maybe that was the problem. What size do you use on your goats? Is there something you put on the end of the syringe to create a better seal. I have seen rave reviews on this milker as well a your advice so I must be doing something wrong. Help!!!! I'm so sad my milking is not going well. Ferns udder is very soft, baby is 9 wks. I think I need to start seperating them.
I live in Northeast Pennsylvania, my husband and I bought our "dreamstead" this past spring. I have always wanted dairy goats. I chose the Nigerians because of their small size and gentle disposition. I currently have 5 goats and plan to build my herd. My one goat Fern is weaning her baby and I am starting to milk her. I want to learn to make artisan cheeses and sell them locally. I have a cottage on my property and plan to start an agritourism business so people can come to the farm and have a good experience. I also have 25 chickens, 2 horses, 12 ducks and 3 old dogs. Glad to meet all of you, thanks for the welcome!
