So I just found out from my friend, that Jackson is not coming to her farm. The lady has decided to keep her and sell his mom istead! My friend and I are not happy!!! So now I have no buck to breed Irena too!! I believe I caught her in heat on Sat night. So now it is wait till summer or breed to a mini Fainter...... I am at a total loss!!!! AURRGGGHHHH!!!

Payton, I left you a private message. Hope to talk with you soon! :)
Also the fainter buck I would be useing is Half fainter half ND.
Julie Shere in Embaress Mn, is so far the only person I have sorta got a yes from. I just have to get Irena tested for CAE and Johnes. But she lives so far away! Thats the problem!
I meant to say wait till summer and find a buck thats for sale.
I agree with Patty. You'd really want to check out the genetics behind a mini fainter to make sure it's not too big. Fainters are meat goats, so I'd be nervous about breeding one to a ND, especially a first freshener. Who will you be able to breed her to in summer?
Those are all hard choices, for sure. I'll be praying something works out for you soon. :)
Thanks Patty :)
I am worried about the same thing also, the kid being to big and having complications. I have asked around and have been told to go to this person and what not but so far no luck in trying to find a buck to breed to my little girl. I have found one farm, but she lives in Embaress, Mn, to far for us to drive just to get one goat breed! I so far have 5 options, 1 wait till summer and have her kid in winter (which I don't want her to do!) 2 Breed her to one of my friends buck's 3 Buy a buck and it could live at my grandma's house ( It would mean more chorses for me over there and who would care for it when I'm gone or sick?) 4 Wait till next year ( I really wanted to have her breed this year) or AI(which sounds like it is a lot of money and might not work!) I have no clue what to do. But I love my little girl so and I want to do the best possible thing for her!
Thanks for all the help :)
I forgot to say the other reason I don't think I'd breed to the mini fainter. The fainter breed is a stockier, blockier breed. I've read that they can have kidding issues because of that. Again, not really sure that's true, or that I'm understanding correctly.
Hi Payton,
I'm sorry to hear about the wrench in your plans, and I hope that you are able to come up with something that works for you.
I have to say that personally, I wouldn't breed my does to a mini fainter. Of course, that might be because I don't know much about the mini fainter breed. I MIGHT BE COMPLETELY WRONG IN WHAT I'M ABOUT TO SAY.
I do know that a mini fainter is a true fainter that has been bred to a smaller size by selecting the smaller fainters and breeding them to each other. In my mind, a true mini fainter that has a consistently small line, and always throws small kids might be okay, but I would be worried about the kids possibly being too big. I'd for sure want to know how long his particular line has been consistently throwing small kids.
Also, is it for sure a mini fainter in the true sense, or is is a fainter bred to a dwarf breed, and they're calling it a mini fainter? In that case, there would be more chance that there are genetics in there that might make for a bigger kid.
Like I said, I really don't know anything about this, so I hope others respond so I can learn something new if I'm not understanding all this correctly.
Best wishes! :)
