Very Sick Grandbaby!

I just saw Lyn's comment on my photo of my grandbaby DIXIE and thought I would share the present situation with you guys. She could use some extra prayers right now! She is apparently VERY sick! I do not understand what is going on exactly.I know very little. I received a text from her mom a few days ago telling me she was taking her to the hospital because the medicine the doctor had put her on for Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever was not working. Well, that was the first I had even heard that anything was wrong. She was not kept at the hospital and her mom said something about they were going to contact the CDC. But mean while I am not clear on there doing much for her. I sent a text a while ago and asked about her and all I got back was -yes, she is still sick high fever headaches and vomiting.

Then I got another one saying they were seeing a doctor Monday in Nashville and that they were getting a referral to infectious disease control????? I am so confused .... Am I the only one that thinks this is really dragging your feet with a very sick 3 year old ... With something that could potentially kill her!!!!! I am very upset ... I wish I could go get her and bring her to Mobile, I guarantee My Pediatrician (who is so caring they just gave me some things for Anchovy a little while ago!) would have her in the hospital or be doing SOMETHING for her.   SORRY, Thanks All!    "SORRY VENTING HERE!"

  • Prayers for you and your family! I know how hard it is when you have a child that is sick.  My son was born with 2 heart defects and had to have heart surgery at 2 days old, then another at a month.  The second surgery he coded on the table 2 times.  Kids can sure give their parents and grandparents quite the scare.  Trials like this I think make you stronger as a person.  I know in the moment you feel so helpless, lost and frustrated.  Doctors always have you hurry up to wait!! Hugs for you and your family and I pray for wisdom for the doctors and peace for you guys.  Hang in there...

  • Thanks guys, we'll let you know if we find out anything. As for now the most positive thing I know is that her Memaw is on notice and ready to leave Mobile to pick her up at any time if needed. One call and I am a gone Memaw.  Thank God they are only 500 miles away now and not still up in Washington at Ft. Lewis, where they were when she was born. It is rough being the parents of soldiers and always having to have them a long way from home. My 18 year old signed up before his B'day and had to wait three weeks 'til he was 18 to go for his processing and is leaving in Oct. for Ft. Benning. I believe that they are still planning to deploy LD to Afghanistan around August. I don't know how much more of this Ican stand. I know exactly how Tammy feels about the goats and depression. They are such good therapy. Truly they really are!

  • Oh, Margaret!  I cannot even imagine what you are going through.  Even when my then-almost-two-year-old granddaughter had eye cancer 2-1/2 years ago, the worst was over quickly with the eye being removed two days after diagnosis and the path report coming back clean.  Sienna has testing every five weeks under anesthesia which have all been clean.  Not even knowing for certain what is happening for Dixie - for three months - with someone so little is so very horrible.  I, along with everyone else, hope Dixie has the right doctor soon for appropriate care so she can be her happy, healthy self again soon.  {{{ Dixie and all of your family }}}

  • Oh, my! How scary! Well, hang in there and keep us updated! This does not sound good! More hugs and prayers!

  • Thanks all, you all are, as usual  much appreciated.

    I was finally able to speak with her mom and I believe she is about at her wits end. She (Dixie' momma-Nikki) is a medic in the army and of course now that they are home from there deployment works at the hospital on the base. My oldest son,  LD (littleDennis- a Jr.) has been in Ga. @ Ft Benning for about 8 weeks in Ranger School and poor Nikki doesn't handle things so well without him. He is the primary care giver.Nikki is several years his Jr and learning about child care as she goes as do many new moms but LD being the oldest of 7 knows more about babies than most moms these days so she is having a real hard time.

    Naturally, I told her that if she wanted me to come get her I would. Guess what- apparently she has already discussed this with her own mom who is in Illinois and I think I may be going to Tennessee soon to get her. If things don't change very soon I am probably going to get her and bring her to our pediatrician here were we at least know that someone who knows what they are doing can take care of her! Nikki knows that our Doc is very good and has seen her with Dixie while visiting here and really likes her also. Of course she use to be LD's Doc also and he has complete faith in her and threatened to bring Dixie down here when all this started a few months ago. I can not believe that this has been dragging on for 3 months. I knew she had been sick a couple of times and even had to go to the hospital a few times but did not realize that apparently it has been the same thing lingering on without her actually getting over the original illness.

    Nikki also told me today that she was becoming concerned that Dixie's kidneys may be damaged or she may suffer some other permanent damage because of all the medicines she has been on including lots of antibiotics which mom is afraid will leave her immune to them.

    AND that she had been having HALLUCINATIONS!

    So, thanks for your prayers and encouragement as usual. Only time will tell now!

  • Prayers going up for little Dixie.  What a sweet name she has, and so pretty!

  • Our prayers are with her and your family.

  • Oh, Margaret, that's terrible. I do hope they figure out what's wrong! Hugs!
