To keep or not to keep a buckling

Lady had twins 3 weeks ago. I am retaining the doeling but would like an opinion on the buckling. The question is should I wether him because of his super erect ears, or is this not a problem? This is a Rosasharn breeding on nonrelated parents however as with most Rosasharn goats there are some common ancestors on both sides.

  • His ears are more upright than mine after a second look. But he is adorable and Deb says there is nothing wrong with them. I really like him. Guess you just need to see how he grows out and decide if he is buck worthy!

  • I really would like to keep him, definately keeping his sister.  His 2 yr old sister from the same breeding just freshened and I am very happy with her. However....he is related in some fashion to all of my other does. I think I will offer him for sale and if he doesnt sell then it wont break my heart! :)

  • I don't think I'd wether Donkey just for the ears.  They maybe nicely upright, but the size is ok.

What would be your plans for him if you keep him buck?

  • He is adorable, and I love his ears. I think donkey is a cute name for him, because they are very obvious! I am not sure why they look like that, because the set of them seems very normal to me.I am sure that I have ears here that are just like that. I think maybe they are just a hair bigger maybe, or something that makes them look like that, but they don't stick up to far.

    He is just to cute!

  • Not sure yet Deborah, I just wanted to make sure that this wasnt a major fault. I've never had a nigerian with ears that stand up like that. We have nicknamed him "Donkey", and yes, he is a cute one for sure.

  • There is nothing wrong with his ears. You're planning to keep him yourself for breeding?

  • What a cutie!! IDK what the ruling on the ears would be...
