I'm new to my two baby goats, and this wonderful site! I am so thankful for all the information I've read so far. My little girl, Lily, has got a very round kinda hard tummy. She is eating, drinking, and very playful. She doesnt seem to not be feeling well, but what's up with the tummy? Her brother doesn't have that.....is she just too fat? I've had them for a week now. Still have so much learn, don't want to be missing something if there is something wrong! Thanks!

I am so happy for you!
Yay! I'm so happy to read this! I was afraid to look when I saw you'd posted a reply. Glad I did. Celebrating with you in MN! Congratulations and great job!! :)
Thanks everyone for your prayers and all your help.. I am so happy to report that Suzy Q is 98% better!! Went to the vet Tues night and she actually told me she was surprised that she was even still alive with the parasite count she had on the Sat before. She was so proud of us for keeping her alive! They gave her an injection of Selenium and Dexamethasone and we dewormed her again on Wed with Cydecton and levitisole (Sp?). We have continued the Nutra drench and Red cell and Probios. But we are going to only do it once daily until Monday then discontinuing and see what happens. She is acting like her self again. She is eating hay and grass and briars and all the good goat stuff :) She has got some spunk now and has started chewing cud again which she wasn't doing before. And is getting vocal again. :) Any suggestions on when we can introduce her back with the other two and back into the pasture. Should we do anything special?
How is your Suzy Q? I hope you've been able to get some help for her and all's well now. Hugs to you and the little miss!
Praying for you and your baby <3
If you are drenching her, she doesn't have to "drink" the water because you are drenching her -- if I understood what you're doing. If she is truly refusing to drink water, she should have be getting fluids sub-q so she doesn't dehydrate, but you really don't see a goat that sick unless they are nearly dead. You don't have to "make" them drink by adding stuff to the water. Drinking is a survival instinct.
I do not recall you saying earlier that she was being treated for listeriosis -- just thiamine deficiency. Typically treatment is initially IV antibiotics. It sounds like she really needs to be seen by a vet who knows goats. Let us know what they say.

Thinking of you and praying for ya'll ! Please let us know as soon as you know something new dear! God Bless!
thanks for the info on the kool-aid , we read it in a book about raising goat though..but I was wondering the same thing..any other suggestions to put in the water? she won't drink it plain :( Well the vet kept saying that the thiamine and listeria were what we were treating her for with the injections..so it makes me wonder if we are treating for it why is the circling a new symptom?
Circling is usually a symptom of listeria in which case she needs to see a vet ASAP. And she does not need Kool-aid. It's just artificial color and artificial flavors and will do nothing but stress her system.
Having to take Suzy Q back to the vet tonight..although she seems to have improved some (eating now, up and walking around) she is walking like she is a drunken sailor. She even loses her balance and falls over some. We have given he,r on top of the injections of Thiamine and LA200 and the dewormers, nutraflush, probios, and red cell. We have been syringing water (flavored with unsweetened kool-aid) into her mouth just to keep her hydrated. She is eating grass and some (very little) hay. She has also started circling her kennel then she'll just stop and stare at the wall or the blocks or whatever. I haven't seen her lay down (other than when she falls down) since yesterday. I'm not at home all day but my mother in law and grand mother watch her while my husband and I are at work and they haven't seen her lay down either. Any thoughts, suggestions, moral support, ANY thing?? I am at such a lose right now. She is pitiful :( It makes me want to cry...I just love this booger so much..
