My doe should be coming into heat in October, and I am looking for a registered buck for stud, somewhere in the Tulsa, OK area. Please contact me if you can help. The only 2 registered bucks I know of are her sire and grandsire, and since I am very new to this, do not want to do any line breeding. Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

I asked my vet what the difference between in-breeding and line-breeding is. He said line-breeding is when it goes well; in-breeding is when it does not. He also emphasized that while people are doing it for the good qualities, they overlook the faults that come along. He also referred to certain breeds of dogs notorious for specific physical defects. I cannot imagine me ever considering either as it just doesn't seem right (unless all kids were going into the freezer). Someone pointed out to me it happens in "the wild" to which I responded not often because buck kids either get run off as they mature or eaten by predators so it would not be as common as we might think.
In general, breeding father to daughter, or siblings would be considered in breeding, and not line breeding. There are some discussions here about the differences.
Kolti, unless you are a very experienced breeder, and have good reason to line breed, I personally wouldn't recommend it. I have one doe that I will be line breeding, but I intend to eat all her offspring. If you line breed, you increase the risks of defaults and other things coming out, so at the very least, you should be prepared for that, and have a plan to handle those things.
Kolti,
I certainly cannot say from experience, but I have noted that often there is reference to "line breeding" of certain goats. I suppose it works if one is starting from something good, is very observant, knows what the objective is, and is prepared to cull mistakes. A particular buck that is/was the product of very, very intense line breeding appears to have turned well and is an example of what can be produced (Woodhaven Farms Luzifer Blue), and you can look at his pedigree to see the line breeding on his sire's side (http://kidscorral.net/Pedigrees/PedLuzifer.htm).
I hope more knowledgable people than I will answer you.

Not meaning to change things up but is it okay to breed daughter to father or daughter to grandfather?
Julia,
Here is a partial list of websites for nigerian semen sales. One thing to consider: If you use A.I., you don't have to keep a buck around, pay for his upkeep, etc.
There is bound to be something good for you somewhere in that list.
Regards,
Michael

I haven't looked for any, Julia, but I think there are a few here that have looked into it. Heather, that's another solution for sure!! :)
Rachel, do know of a source for Nigerian Dwarf semen?

I'm not from the area, so I don't have options for you... but if you have issues, maybe it would be worth considering AI?
