Possibly bred doelings?

A friend of mine is buying a couple doelings that were left with their brothers (intact).  They're something like three months old now and I mentioned to her that it is possible that they could be bred already.  What do you think the chances are that they are bred, and if the chance is good, should I give them a shot of lutalyse to abort just in case??  TIA

  • I'd say the odds are maybe 1 in 100, if that. You would have to have does in heat AND bucks that could do it AND had enough live sperm. We're up to about 250 kids here, and I think I've only seen two does at three months in heat, so that would be 1% of my does. I've never seen a doe younger than that in heat. I've also had a buck at six months that didn't get a doe pregnant, and I had a couple of bucks who didn't even know what to do until closer to 8 months. There is a lot more to it than just mounting a doe like they do when they're babies showing dominance.
  • I know that bucklings are capable of breeding by that age, but I'm not sure that doelings usually go into heat as early... I'm going to sit this one out and follow to see what the pro's say.
