I was wondering if anyone knows if Squash and Squash plants are poisonous to goats? Also I have heard that black walnuts leaves are poisonous to goats I have a black walnut tree and one of my bucks has ate a few leaves with no problem. Is black walnut poisonous to goats?

I gave my goats my squash plants once they were done last year, and my kale. They ate them both!
Was wondering about feeding collards to my goats?? My neighbor gave me a huge bag and by the time I stripped of the "good" leaves I have almost a shopping bag of stalks and less than perfect follage...My chickens did not care for it last time, so was thinking the goats might like the treat??
If not then I guess in the compost they will go.
Thnx Kelsie
Onions will definitely flavor the milk. I was at a friends' small dairy farm years ago, very excited about the raw milk....but the cows had been grazing raw onions and it nearly knocked me off my chair.
They've got free choice baking soda, Deborah. But also an abundance of onions!
I've never seen anything about junipers with goats. I don't think we have any on our property, so I don't have any personal experience with them.
When my goats have stinky burps, it usually means they're out of baking soda.
I know nothing about goats eating something that affects the taste of their milk, since my goats aren't yet in milk. HOWEVER...they've been eating wild onions out in the pasture. Then they all come in the barn and burp and it will just about knock you out! 8-)
Another question for feeding the goats different things. We have to cut down to Juniper conifers, they do have the berries on them and we where wondering if they are o.k for the goats to eat? I have checked several books and have not found anything that says yes or no and was wondering if anyone has fed them to their goats.
Thanks for your help yet again!
My goats LOVE the corn stalks!! They are starting to get dry, and they still love them.
Oh, I wish goats didn't like apple trees! I learned about goats not respecting electric fence in a very painful experience. Six years ago, I had six bottle doelings, and they spent all winter going through the electric fence and chewing the bark off my six apple trees. Five of them died.
A lot of people talk about things affecting the taste of milk, and MAYBE if you gave them enough of something it would make a difference, but I have never noticed anything affecting my goats' milk flavor. I use a lot of herbs, and I use them in pretty high amounts, and nothing has ever affected the taste.
