Newbie to this group

Hello all, I am new to this group, I joined in hopes of finding someone who would be selling NDG in my area, I am between Kingston and Ottawa ON. , half way between Brockville & Smiths Falls. I have owned goats in the past but a few years ago now since had any. I'm returning to small scale, ( sustainable living) farming. Really only for my own usage. I would love to find a pair unrelated NDG kids, since this is a more manageable size for me, I am getting too old for working with larger breeds. I am also wanting goats without horns.  After reading through the discussions I found this group to be very informative and hope to make friends with others with similar interests. So that being said ... I look forward to meeting and chatting with you here.

  • Well no Nigerians yet, but was at the sales barn Easter Monday, and came away with a milking doe, I think a Saanen, quite a bit larger than I intended but none the less a nice girl who sort of picked me while I was down in the pre sale pens where they hold them, checking out the milk bags on the does, she was super friendly and had a good size udder.  She followed me around as if to say pick me, and I did, came away with her, Sad to say most went for meat being Easter Monday.  I almost felt as if this was a rescue. She is fitting into the homestead nicely.

  • Welcome to the group!!

  • WELCOME!! I hope you find a seller near you!! This group has been an amazing resource for me. I trust the advice given here more than any other site I'm part of. I hope you find it to be as good for you!!

  • Welcome! I'm glad you found the forum and introduced yourself. And I see you've already met Marin, who is also from Canada!

  • Have you checked out the Canadian Livestock Records? You can search by province & breed here:

I'm sure there are other breeders that aren't on here, but it's a good place to start, as is the Ontario Goat Breeders Association:

Or hopefully you'll luck out and find someone on here close to you!
