New From B.C. Canada

Hello,

I live in northern British Columbia on a small 5 acre hobby farm with my husband and two children ages 11 & 14.

We purchased our first 2 NDGs in the spring of 2011 as pets.  They were 3 mos old twin sisters and we christened them "Loretta" and "Clover".  Unfortunately, we lost Clover last fall when a dog chewed through our fencing wire and chased her until I think she had a heart attack.  Our family was devastated.  We have now added a shed for secure housing overnight.  We purchased two more NDGs, 3 mos old twin sisters, "Blossom" & "Linda".

Our Labrador, Harley, has become our official goat-sitter.  He happily goes into the goat yard with our girls during the day to keep watch.  I am extremely paranoid about security now and our girls are kept in their shed where they have access to a small dog run off the back that is six foot high chain link when we are not home.  When we are home, they go out to their "big" field which is about .5 acre fenced with hog and sheep wire.  If I was going to do anything over again, it would be to use a much heavier wire.

I would like to breed my girls and after lots of reading, I am thinking perhaps next spring.  The oldest, Loretta, will be 2 years old then.

I have learned a lot from watching the posts in this forum over the last few months as there are not a lot of other goat owners.

  • Hi Kim,

Welcome! It must have been really hard to lose Clover, I don't blame you for being paranoid about security now.

Although I'm now living in Saskatchewan I went to university in Prince George, it's a beautiful area.
