Milk Pale

I have been looking at stainless steal buckets for milking and they all are way over priced in my opinion, like $40 bucks. I was looking in Jeffers and saw one that is actually meant for god bowls but was wondering if it would work for milking.http://www.jefferspet.com/stainless-steel-pails/camid/LIV/cp/16034/cn/3201/. Whats so great about the ones meant for milking that makes them so expensive?

Actually, when I had my nubians almost 19 years ago, I used ss stock pots! But it would have to be a very small stock pot to fit under a ND! I do love my little buckets from Jeffers and I can see finding them at a better price! I like the handles and I really like the hook on the side of the pot!

  • Your welcome! Glad I could help :) I still need to order these :0

  • Thank you for posting this thread! I was wondering what i was going to use for my ND's. I will start milking my very first in a couple weeks. I was just going to use a stainless steel pot I have. I think I am going to order a couple of those buckets. I am using a lg pot for my Nubians but no way it would fit under a ND!  Thanks again! :)

  • These very small SS pails are commonly used in the show dog world for water in cages and crates, so checking out the dog supplies may be worth a look too.

  • Okay, thanks that helps.

I doubt a 5-quart pail is going to fit under a ND, and for milking, you do NOT want a pail that has seams, which galvanized pails usually do. You can't get the seams clean. Galvanized will also start to rust. For health and sanitation reasons, milk buckets need to be seamless stainless steel.

  • Personally, I wouldn't want to use galvanized. I don't see how stainless steel at $5 can be beat. They are great for lots of other things too! We use them to hook on crates for water and to fix cleaning solutions for injuries etc.
