limping doe

I have a doe that acts totally normal but after she has been laying down when she gets up she limps on one of her front legs. She is just a dry yearling. In the last couple of months her legs have gotten alot longer. After she has been up for a short bit she walks normally and puts weight on her leg. I was wondering if anyone knows what is wrong with her? We were thinking her leg may be falling a sleep when she lays down or she is having growing pains. Is this normal? We are considering taking her to the vet and having her looked at but what other more experience goat owners advice first

  • This doe has been doing this for a couple of weeks and I am afraid if I take her to the vet they would say she is just fine. We have checked her hoofs can not find anything wrong with the. We trimmed them up thinking that she may just need them trimmed but she is still limping on the one front leg when she gets up from resting. I think I may just watch her. I dont want to have a vet bill for something that may go away on its own.

  • I would check the bottom of her hoof to make sure she doesn't have a thorn stuck in the soft part. Other than that, I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions. I had a yearling doe that went through the same thing. After her limping for a couple of days, I took her to the vet, who did x-rays and couldn't find anything wrong. She gave me some pain pills for the doe, which didn't really help. The doe wound up limping for several months, and then she was fine. She's four now and is perfectly normal.

  • I wish I knew what to say, that would help, but I don't. It does sound a little concerning that is for sure. It doesn't sound like something I would rush to a vet with since they tend to know so little about goats anyway. I hope someone can give you a little insight but meanwhile, thought I would offer you my best wishes that she will be fine and just let you know I am thinking of you. Can you give us a little more info like about how long she has been doing this etc.? And have you checked the hoof good for splits etc.? If it is "growing pains", then it should go away shortly, I would think.
