Our two bucks escaped on September 16th, 145 days ago, and were in with our 29 mature does for 5 minutes. We did not start any intentional breeding until October 6th. In the past two days we have had 5 does kid. From the looks of them I won't be surprised if we have some more in the next couple of days.
Five minutes. That was it. I'm so glad that none of the too-young-to-breed girls were in that group.
I'm also glad that we're having unseasonably warm weather here. It's still below freezing, but not disgustingly cold.

LOL! You are so funny!

ok, more data to consider! Oh, but do we know anything about when they would have ovulated! Had there been an attempted breeding the day before? or was this the first day they would stand. It doe 1 was ready then those fast boys got there first right? and if doe two didn't ovulate for awhile the boys would have been dead so the girls hanging around picked up their slack. Ain't that the truth? The girls have to pick up the boys slack! LOL! Sorry, you guys, but you know...
Interesting theory, but don't get your hopes up too much. I just had two does kid that were bred on the same day. First doe to be bred had twin bucks; second doe had triplet does.
If your theory is right, I should have all does, or at least mostly, here since my does were the only ones bred to those two bucks during that time period.
Exactly! You did that well. I think you knew just what I was thinking about!
The conversation the other day about the sexes!
You are right if the singletons were from the last breedings and the sperm count was low and they had already used the girl sperm up then that supports our theory! PLUS you have only 4 does and 7 bucks which also lends credibility to the part of the theory about them breeding several does at once and using up the girl sperm.
If we all keep collaborating on this, we may actually figure out how to get more does! I am already formulating a plan in my head of how to breed mine in the future.
In fact, I am thinking that since mine have been staying with the bucks then they probably would have gotten breed as soon as possible in the cycle which hopefully means that there were girl sperm still alive and sitting there ready at ovulation to do their thing. We will see! I sure hope so!
Thursday
Artemis: 1 boy
Juniper: 2 girls
Friday
Daisy: 2 boys 1 girl
Hera: 2 boys 1 girl
Circe: 1 boy
Sunday
Aphrodite: 1 boy
So there doesn't really seem to be any correlation between when the does kidded and the sex of the kid, but all three who only had one, and were presumably bred last, did have boys.
I am guessing that is so too, Marin! You would certainly think so! I am curious about the order of births and the sexes!
Thanks Lisa!
Of the six does that kidded, three had singltons. None of them were first fresheners. I'm thinking they were bred last and that the bucks had "depleted their stores" by the time they got to them:-)
WOW! Thanks for sharing. Lesson learned for me. If a buck breaks in...WRITE it down! I did not do this and now I have no idea when my two does will freshen....cant be much longer though! Wow that is a lot of breeding in 5 minutes! You were asking me about DNA testing. I found a company in Saskatchewan that I will use. Here is there link:

Six. Six does bred in five minutes.
