HELP!!!!!

Ok, I need some experienced people! I had a doe kid last night. She had 2, the second one is having some issues. We have taken her off of her mom and we are feeding her with a dropper because she is very weak. She almost seems to be having seizures. She throws her head back and goes stiff then relaxes. Is this what they do when they are dying? This a my first go around with babies. They came to me bred so I didn't know an exact due date. Is there anything I can do to save this little girl?

  • Just liked your FB page!  :)  I'm sorry about your little one.  I hope the rest of your births go very well, and kids stay healthy.  The kids you have so far are really adorable!  I'm so excited for March!

  • I always give a little cheer when I see newborns potty ... "Woo hoo! The plumbing works!"

I didn't get to look at that. But I think she went potty.
  • Nice FB page. I liked it for you. I need to find a way to increase my likes. Unfortunately, I don't do much FB from my farm page!

Your kids are great. Glad you are getting does. Sure hope I do! Lots of them! I would love to double my herd size this year. LOL! Fat chance of that with a lot of FF's. If I had the money to buy about 6 Spanish for our meat herd and then keep some ND does I would be a very happy camper!

At least it looks as if we will soon have a kidding for the meat herd. I have a little boar mix who lost her kid last Jan. 14th. I had just bought her Christmas week and she was to young, small and scrawny. She didn't even look pregnant and the baby was only about 1-2 weeks early and stillborn. She has been growing like a weed and is the biggest goat I have now. A couple of days ago I checked for an udder and sure enough not only does she have a little pooch, when I checked her teat she had rich healthy looking colostrum come out, so I am thrilled. I hope within the next month or two she will kid at least one healthy baby. Preferably two. a doe for the herd and a buck to raise for slaughter.

Sorry, I love to babble about my goats!

  • Did you get a chance to see if she had an anus? We had a lamb born like that once, and although he seemed healthy at first, he never stood, and his mother left him after about an hour. I have NEVER had a Shetland ewe leave a lamb. It's amazing how they seem to know when something isn't right. I gave him colostrum with a bottle, and I brought him into the house. He started having seizures. There isn't anything you can do for them in that situation. Someone on here had a kid born without an anus a couple years ago.

  • Well Tinkerbell actually had quads!! They are all doing great! Sunshine is the one that lost the baby. You can see all of the babies on my fb page. Duncan creek Nigerians I believe. :)
  • So sorry Jessica, I know you did your best. Sometimes we just can't save them. I am so glad that you still have one doeling! Let us know if we can help at all with her. Hope she does great and try to make sure she nurses on both sides, this can prevent lots of problems with the momma.

BTW was this Tinkerbell who had the doelings?

I went to your site! Your goaties are precious! Post a pic of the new kid when you get a chance so we ca see her. Best to you all!

  • Hey everybody! I lost all Internet connection last night and couldn't see everything. U did lose her last night. I am going to answer what questions I can so hopefully it can help someone in the future. She was the second one born and was about the same size as her sister. I was there when she was born and she was having trouble from the start. She had a hard time breathing from the start. She did stand and she did nurse. She cried very loudly. The mother cleaned her up a bit and let her eat and then started ignoring her. If I would put her in front of mom, she would be very tentative but the would ignore her. We were going to take her in the first night but it was stressing her and the mom out so we left her over night in the stall with plenty of hay and a heat lamp. When we went in to check on her yesterday morning I could tell she had gone downhill. She was not running a temp but had very labored breathing and was cold. So we tried and tried but we are so new to all of this that we just didn't know what to do. Thank you all so much for all of the answers. :)
