My husband and I just bought a 26 acre farm in rural central WV and we have started with a few pigs, chickens, and recently two bred Nigerian dwarf does. We want to start a small herd & use their milk in every way possible. Our goal is to have a totally self sustaining farm complete with a garden and several different types of animals. I have never raised goats before so we are new to it but learning more each day. Our Does are both pregnant and due in late February. I'm reading a lot of books on them and trying to connect with others who have raised them for years to gain some knowledge from their experience. Any pointers will be greatly appreciated!

West Virginia is a great place in my opinion, my husband is born & raised here I'm from MD originally. It seems Boer goats are more popular around here but I've met & found several ND breeders here in WV along with lots of fairs where you can show them.
Welcome! I just joined too. My boyfriend & I are actually looking to relocate to WV if not this spring, then next spring. We will be house shopping next spring at the very least. I'm interested in knowing how many ND breeders there are in the state. I know they have the state fair in Lewisburg, and that's around the area we'd be looking in - we lived in Union, WV a few years ago. I'm pretty sure they had goat shows at the fair, so there has to be some around at the very least.
Thanks! I'll definitely get that book, I've bought & read every book I can find at tractor supply on goats so im always looking for new reading material :)
