First Freshener!!

I have waited for EVER for pregnant does... finally got kids from one of them last year, and broke down and bought my own bucks. This year, I have THREE pregnant does! Ginger is a HOUSE. I didn't write her breeding date down, because seriously, I didn't think Calvin had reached her! (he was a little bugger) I also seem to have not removed one of the dates I thought she was in heat, and so I have two potential breeding dates based on my poor record keeping... lol She should deliver this weekend.

Lucy is a First Freshener, and un registered. I took her because her mother has an AMAZING udder, and due to some sales that never got recorded, Lucy can't be registered. But her mom is a great milker, and I got a good deal on her. I'm excited, because when I checked her udder today, I see that she's bagging up!! Day 147 for her is the 22nd.

Harriet hasn't started bagging up, but her sides are pretty big these days, and she's also a first freshener. Day 147 is April 10th for her. :)

Wish us luck!!

  • Hej from Sweden!
That sounds great! What a fantastic adventure you are in for!
So exciting and just as we are heading into Spring.
Congratulations and I can't wait for photos.
  • Summer is developing quite a little udder, FF due April 9th.  It is so different to see her walking away with an udder instead of just the two little teats. Now it's just Ginger that has none (udder not teats).

I must admit that with the tragedies that have happened this past week, I'm more concerned than I was already, especially with me being such a newbie.

Margaret, I just love your description, "... just big enough to where the nipples are right at the sides of the pudge, ..." <g>

  • YEEHAW!

  • Yes, ma'am! Sounds like pregnant goats to me! :) My daughter used to refer to them as "cup udders," because they just fit in your cupped hand.

Does great description mean that is correct? Is that what it sounds like is going on? Are you saying you think it sounds like my girls are finally pregnant? For real?

  • Great description, Margaret!

    And congratulations Rachel!

  • Congrats! I can't wait to see what you get! It is so exciting isn't it? I know you are proud that you have your own bucks. Me too! I couldn't do it any other way! I would go slap crazy, even if I only had a couple of does! I certainly could not get this many bred without bucks! I feel really bad for folks like Glenna. I think everyone should get to have what they want, no matter where they live, as long as they can take care of them and are respectful of the neighbors etc.

I know exactly how you feel though. Finally, I feel as if I am making some headway. Unless it is my imagination, this weekend when I decided once again, for the humpteenth time, to feel my 9 FFs for changes, for the first time it seems as if I finally feel a little chubbiness under the teats on several of them. I have never heard anyone talk about the very beginning of the udder development, but after feeling them I guess I would say what I feel would be like the difference in what you see in a human girls breast development. Instead of feeling just a tight hard belly and the nipples, it seems that there is just like half a inch of a pudgy feeling little pad, just big enough to where the nipples are right at the sides of the pudge, Hope that makes sense! A couple didn't really feel pudgy so much as they just felt that skin was a little looser, like maybe it was making room for the pudge to come up next. Where as usually they feel as if that skin is so tight on there stomachs that it is like glued to them!

This will sound weird unless you have had it happen: You know what the headliner in your car is? (FF no development) Ever had it come unglued in a small spot? (a few of them) Now imagine, a squished marshmallow under that loose spot! (A couple are like that)

So do you know if that sounds like the very beginning of the udder development?
