Just wanted to announce the arrival of our first baby. Rosehill Farms Roxy!
She was born sometime on 2/3/2013 (Superbowl Sunday) to Cookie and Toby.
These are not only my first goats but my first Nigerians. Cookie was a first timer and gave us no
indication she was gonna pop that day. Wish I could have been home when the time came. Of course its Murphys Law....i had made up a bag with all the necessary and emergency supplies and had it hanging in the stall ready to go so of course she did it all by herself with no problemo.
Roxy is just gorgeous (i know im prejudiced). I believe you call the pattern buckskin. Black head and shoulders, then med brown body with a splash of white on one side and one leg on the other side. Brown eyes like her mama. was hoping for daddys baby blues.
I have a question....how soon do the horn buds appear? She doesnt seem to have any... perhaps she's polled?

Congratulations on your new baby goat! And to her mom for making life so easy for you. If you want to disbud the little one, it's best to do it soon. I have had mine disbudded within a week or birth, unless they were unusually small or frail for some reason. I didn't worry about looking for horn buds. My main concern was to avoid having scurs. My little doeling who was born last May was teensy, so on the vet's advice, I waited about two weeks to disbud her, and she hasn't formed any scurs. That said, all three bucklings were disbudded within a week of birth, and two of them developed scurs.
I think once you know what you're looking for, MAYBE that is true... and different goat breeds are different also... so that plays into it. I couldn't tell until I shaved my girl's heads, and even then, one showed better than the other.
If you shave her head, you will see the buds in two weeks from delivery. Unless you bred her mother to a polled buck, or her mother is polled, she is most likely not polled.

Congratulations, glad you got a doe! Post pics as soon as you can!
Congrats!!
You can usually feel buck's horn buds the day they're born, but does can take a week or so before you feel them.
