Feeding Christmas Trees

Time to take down the Christmas tree! I saw on another farms facebook page that they gave it to their goats! I wanted to check to make sure they can munch on any type of christmas tree and if anyone else does this?

Thanks for your help

  • I fed mine this morning. Watch out for tinsel.

  • Thank you for all the information and the link to last years discussion.

  • We had a pretty in depth discussion about this last year! http://nigeriandwarfgoats.ning.com/forum/topics/can-goats-eat-chris...

If I remember right, the summary of it was to be aware that some store bought trees might be sprayed with chemicals. The type of evergreen itself didn't seem to matter. I know that my goats like pine better than cedar, but will eat both. I feed them the trimmings off of trees on the property.

  • Just be sure it isn't one that hasn't been spray-painted. If it's super bright green, look carefully at the limbs to see if they are also green.

  • We have. As far as I know, any kind is ok. They probably won't eat it if they shouldn't as long as they have plenty of safe food to eat.
