Farm Crawl today in Illinois

For those of you in Illinois, we are participating in a Farm Crawl today, which is your opportunity to visit four different farms. We are all located off I-55 halfway between Bloomington and Joliet. As for seeing goats, in addition to our Nigerians and mini manchas, you will also be able to see Nubians at the Farmer in Odell. There are lots of other animals to see, as well as homegrown items to purchase. More info is at http://farmcrawl.blogspot.com Be sure to introduce yourself to me if you come by our farm!

  • WOW! I want to go on these. I need to try to find some farmers in my area to ask if they would set this up. If anyone knows where I could refer them on line to some info about the details of organizing and holding such events I will pass that info along.

Deborah, that sounds cool, I love garlic and want to grow some one day. I saw some on one of the seed sites but it seemed pretty pricey. I don't have the greenest thumb so I stick with pretty cheap stuff right now. I love hearing about people who were successful like this after giving up careers for it too.

  • For several years, we have had these in Clark County, mostly sponsored by the C.S.A.s.  Families really love them and it's a good way to help people be more aware of our farms and our farm animals.  Across the river, there is also an annual chicken coop tour and a bee hive tour.

It's a fabulous idea and quite generous on the part of the farms.

  • I can't wait to hear more about this!  I'll be keeping an eye on your blogs for sure.  Congratulations on your successful day!

  • Friends of mine from the Quad Cities (border of IL and IA) did this last year, and they convinced me to get together with a few farm friends and try it! They said they had about 250 visitors for the day. Our day turned out to be amazing! We were busy all day long, and we don't know the total number of visitors yet, but we're thinking it's a few hundred! We had a drawing where people would be automatically entered if they visited all four farms, and we had about 40 families turn in their passports at our farm. I'm looking forward to seeing how many were turned in at the other farms! We'll know after our meeting on Tuesday! I am exhausted and falling into bed now!

  • What an awesome idea!  Wish I could come!

  • I read it all. Sounds great, Wish I weren't so far away. I've never heard of this. Great idea. Hope it is a beautiful day and all goes well!
