Exporting (importing?) goats to Canada

This isn't exactly a transportation issue, but in a way it is so I stuck it here. :)  I have a family interested in buying goats from me.  They only live about 45 minutes away from me, but it is in Ontario, Canada, and I'm in Minnesota.  Does anyone know what I and this family would need to do to make this work?  Thanks! :)

  • Marin, thank you for your reply.  I hope you're able to get that buck from Deborah soon.  :)

The link that you found is the info you're looking for.

Basically most people in Canada who want to bring in goats from the states just import bucks/bucklings to try to improve their bloodlines. The requirements are much less stringent than for importing females. The Scrapies requirements are for importing does/doelings. Males just require general health certification and blood tests. If the people do decide they want to import a male then make sure they line up all the paperwork before the goats are shipped/picked-up.

There are constant rumours that the Scrapies requirements will start to apply to males too. I'm still hoping to try to coordinate purchasing a buckling from Deborah:-)

  • I just thought I'd let anyone interested know that I found the information needed HERE.  It's complicated, I'd imagine costly, and it looks like it would take at least two years, if not longer.  Crazy! :/

  • :(  I figured as much.  Thanks, Deborah.

  • Marin can answer this for you. I can sum it up by saying that it's complicated! :)
