Deworming in early pregnancy

Okay, guys...I'm kicking myself now. Should have dewormed Annie before breeding her, now she definitely needs it. She was exposed to the buck, do not know for sure if she is bred. If so, she could be 3-4 wks now.

What can I give her at this stage of pregnancy? Have to assume she is bred to be on the safe side. Can I give her Safeguard, and does anyone know if there is any reason not to do the two does 12 hours apart to a pregnant doe. That is how my vet recommends to give the Safeguard.

Thanks

  • I use it at double the cattle dose. :) It's good stuff. No withdrawl time.

  • Super! Thanks again!

  • I clicked on Rachel's link for Eprinex, and that's what I was talking about.

Thanks, Deborah! I am assuming that this is also the correct one then.

  • There are no warnings against using is during pregnancy. I use it at 1 cc per 10 pounds.

  • Yes Rachel, please confirm that this is the right thing and the dosage! Has anyone found out if it is safe during pregnancy?

  • Rachel what do you dose this at?

This is what I use. http://www.jefferslivestock.com/product.asp?camid=LIV&pn=17185&... I and my breeder have safely used it on pregnant does.

  • Rachel- I know Eprinex and Ivermecton are not the same...sorry I was on  a bit of a tangent.  I was hesitant to use the Eprinex for internal b/c I know I have read that it is not effective on internal parasites in goats like it is in cattle.  Don't remember why the difference between species.  But I also know I read on the Rosasharn website that that is their favorite dewormer for internals...so for me the jury is still out on that.

Wish someone with a microscope would test before and after and see how it performs compared to oral dewormers.  Any takers?  I hate not knowing the facts.

  • Thanks, Juliana,I really enjoyed that!

  • Yes.

I have a tube of plain Ivermectin in the house...I read that I can give that to pregnant girls, so should that be okay?
