I am going to have some really happy goats. Today, I bought a 15-lb bag of carrots are Winco; they are sold as juicing carrots but these will be goat carrots.<g> I give the three of them a carrot cut into coin slices at bedtime when I put Ginger in her crate. Of course, there is never enough. I will be a bit more generous with them now but, hopefully, not so much their coats turn orange.
With so many carrots now, it will be impetus to start training tricks which I have been postponing. They will do anything for carrots. Love these girls!
Wish I had taken the video camera out tonight. I fed Capri her grain of which she usually leaves a bit. Let the daughters out and they went right to it. There is a milk can at the front of the stanchion; Summer usually gets on the stanchion and Ginger puts her front feet on the milk can. Tonight she got all the way on it, standing there getting what grain she could. *Then* she walked through the stanchion onto the milk stand to get down. It was hilarious, could not believe she did that as it took some squeezing for this 3o-lb plus doeling to get through it but that was the path she chose and was *not* going to reconsider. I have a feeling I am going to be very glad this is a goat and not a human daughter or I would really, really have my hands full. <g>

yes, now with 5 it is a chaotic stampede. I kept envisioning all that corn swollen up in their bellies. yep, my "little monsters".

The ice is in bottles, like the packs bought at stores to freeze. The only mess is condensation on the outside of the bottles which can be controlled with a towel or even drilling a drain hole. An ice box would be perfect but if there are any around, they would be horrifically expensive. One or two juice bottles will be enough to keep it cool enough for carrots and will need to be changed only every two or three days, just like a cooler only much more convenient. It would be rather cool if the ride home "fixed" and it gets cool if not cold - could I be so lucky? (But then I would have to have it near power so all things are not advantages.)
If I think of that corn more than 1 second, my feet start hurting, from being stomped on by all the goats in my visions. LOL! Every time I get caught in a scramble and my big feet get stomped I remember when I was about 15 and let my horse step on my foot without having on my boots. OUCH! I guess somethings you never forget. I can still visualize that horseshoe shaped blk/bl/grn/yel bruise with a slight cut in the skin slap dab on the middle of the top of my poor widdle foot! Bless my widdle heart! I sure find it easier to handle our small livestock. Whew what a relief.
I am afraid your ice is going to make a mess in your frig when it melts that you won't like. If you decide that won't work you might like using your frig to store things like your wormers and other meds. and supplys. Heh, you could even put a red cross on it if you want with 2 strips of red tape and make it your supply box.
Now you are being logical, Melissa. <g> They are still in the plastic bag from the store setting on the garage floor. I recently acquired a small non-working fridge that I will move to their area and put things like this in it with bottles of ice to keep it cool. But where is the adventure in that? LOL
(I can see you scrambling to pick up the corn; how bad of me to chuckle.)
cant you close the container? mine are in those plastic sterlite tubs. grain that is. Of course, tonight I was trying to get the lid off to use the cracked corn to entice the goats back into the barn - and a kid jumped on it - flipped the tub and what a scramble for me to try to push goats out of the way and get the majority of that cracked corn up before they devoured it! sigh, goats. ^^
Isn't it interesting what different tastes animals have, just like people? I cut the carrots in slices (coins) and they go wild for them. I hadn't thought about carrots being woody. For some reason, they got tired of the berry treats so I am delighted they love the carrots. And now Ginger (baby) knows where they are; she found them first. Last night, I didn't close the door all the way and Capri (mom) went into the garage because she knows the grain is there and found the carrots so I will really have to watch that door and ascertain I close it all the way. <g>
i have never been able to get my goats to eat carrots. being woody - you would think they would
I have a feeling you are going to have your hands full anyway. They are very spoiled! But I think we are all somewhat guilty of that.
Let us know if they turn orange now, I for one really want to hear about that.LOL!
