  • Thanks!  I've looked at this so many times. :)  I love looking at all these colors.  I think that description works very well. :)

  • Patty, I think you may want to consult the article that was recently shared with us about ND colors for this! Among other things, it suggest the term"abundant white". That may work for you here. I think according to this article you would probably say "broken chamoisee/abundant white"! Anyway re-posting it for you here! http://nigeriandwarfcolors.weebly.com/coat-patterns.html

  • I think that is what happened to Quill too!

I remember falling for Shamrock last year. I thought he was just so beautiful!

I noticed you had posted about Panzy and I am going to see what is going on with her!

  • Oh boy, Margaret!  That sounds like a bad experience with the blood draw!  I've done exactly one blood draw, when I was learning how to do it from my breeder friend who is also a vet tech.  It went fine, but it was on a Nubian.  The veins are a lot smaller on the Nigerians.  The gal who taught me said she had that happen once.  The blood actually leaked out of the vein inside and made a big lump.  It eventually absorbed, and the goat was fine.  I wonder if that's what happened to Quill?

Any way, my original three does I purchased were tested for CAE and Johnees, and right after I got them the whole herd they came from was tested for CL as well.  All clean.  I did however bring them to another farm for breeding in December 2011.  That was the last time they were exposed to any other goats.  If we got to the point where this was actually going to happen, I could have the doe and buck tested again.

I own the sire as well as the dam.  The sire is Shamrock, and the dam Starlight.  Shamrock is Panzy's son.  If you click on their names you can see their pedigree info and photos.  Starlight is a geat mama and milk maker.  This is her second freshening.  Triplets both times, two does and a buck both times.  She is making plenty of milk to feed her triplets, and her udder still looks big and full all the time.  Last year she had her two daughters on her for seven months or so, and I got right around a pint each AM from her during that time.   Panzy had a nice udder started this freshening, her third, but with all the trouble she had with this kidding, I don't know how she's going to do milk wise.   I'm getting ready to post about her again, so you'll know what she's going through after you read that.  Last year, Panzy milked a bit easier than Starlight, and has a prettier udder (I think), but she had a single kid (Shamrock) and I only got between three and four cups a day from her when Shamrock was weaned at 2 months.  She milked nice and steady for about 7 months, and then I dried them up as I wanted to be able to take the family to see relatives over the holidays.  You can see udders on my doe page too.

  • Oh yea, I really would, if I have something you liked, but mine won't be here for a while and you may have someone who will buy her from you before then so we will just keep it in mind if you are really interested and if you still have her and I get a buck you like we will try to work it out. I have managed to do a few remarkable things like this before. After all, I managed to get 9 does all the way from New Mexico last year and I never would have thought I would do that!

My brain is really stressed at the moment and I have a "won't quit headache" so I am thinking it must be a migrain! So I can't remember squat! So tell me, is mom an FF? Or do you have any idea how she milks? And do you own dad or know anything about his dam? And is the herd cae free?

I have NOT tested all of mine yet! Because that is my weak spot so far! Blood draws! But they all came from clean tested herds except for my 2 does that are not NDs and I did get theirs done! I am hoping when Spring sets in good I will start feeling more inspired to try again with the draws! I just had a bad experience trying to do Quill! I thought I had killed him, for sure! His jugular puffed all out and he bleed like crazy. I might just pay someone this year, if it doesn't go well!

  • It's July 6 - 13 in St. Paul, MN.  I know I should try to get there, but you know how things are.  $$$ and time are major factors in whether it's possible for me.  I might be able to find someone from up this way who's going though (if I can't go), to pick up/drop off if you're really interested.

  • Look Patty, you gotta understand honey, pretty much everywhere is "up there" to me! You really should try to go to the Nationals! Oh, speaking of which, when is that, and what city is it in? Maybe I could get someone who is going there to do deliveries! I am pretty sure that I know of someone who might very well be going! And she is only 3 hours from me.

  • Margaret, it is SO funny to hear you say "up there" about TN!  That is seriously down south to us.  It would take me about 20 hours of driving to get to TN.  It would be awesome to make a trade with you.  I have the same problem as you do with managing to leave home.  I'd so love to make it down to the ADGA  National Show in July in my own state.  I don't really foresee it being in MN again for a LONG time!  I better train in some milkers if I want to do anything like that. :)  I have kids old enough to handle that for sure.

Thank you, Deborah, for the help with color description! :)

  • With that much white, I'd probably add something like "mostly white."

  • OOOH! I do have 9 does kidding in the next few months, I hope! If I have a guy you like, maybe we should meet up for a swap! HEHE! Wouldn't that be a hoot? If nothing else, I might could hire someone to make the trip up there! My biggest problem is the time away to go! I have a grandbaby due in Clarkesville, Tn. in August,so I will probably be going up there.
