Bethoron just had a doe...now what?

So this is her first birth and mine...she had a doe and passed a placenta about an hour afterwards....she still looks pretty round and I am wondering if there is another baby in there. Is it possible for her to pass the placenta and still have another kid or more in there?

  • Ok this forum has been a great help to me when I was a new mommy, and I discovered this new site by accident one day it has lots of great information especially to those of us that are new to the goat world http://fiascofarm.com/goats/index.htm she has everything in here even blueprints for building a milking stand. I looked at the site posted above awsome great photos for possibles.

  • Everything is normal today and I let the baby and mama out into the pasture for about 30 minutes of supervised rambling. My other two does are very hormonal and butting like crazy even though one is supposed to be pregnant...God I hope that goat is pregnant...and due May 29-Jun 3.

I told my breeder how they were acting and she just laughed and said..."ahhhh hormones in the barnyard"

Now I have to find someone to disbud little Lizzie. She was pip popping around the pasture and the children thought she was hysterical! She sounds like a squeaky toy!

  • I know what you mean, Margaret! I was thinking that maybe I should have said that although the site was very informative and interesting, it was not for the faint of heart! I did see a couple things on there that I have never seen before and never hope to see -- like a buck in milk and a completely prolapsed uterus and the decapitated kid, which I've heard of, but thankfully never seen.

And your doe and kid look great, Lori! The doe does look very well conditioned. I had a couple like that myself this year. And one of them even plopped down and acted like she was pushing two days after giving birth! She certainly got my attention. But I took her temperature, and it was normal, so then I realized that it's probably the goat version of afterpains that humans get. I'm surprised I'd never seen it before, but it's the type of thing that probably doesn't happen much, and you have to be there at just the right minute.

  • o.k. people I feel weird.  Like I had to tell myself to breath weird. I just left that website and I looked at every page. It was VERY enlightening/educational. I was not really surprised so much. It wasn't much of anything I didn't really know or had not seen in the past.  But when you see that much at one time page after page it is a lot to digest.  I mean it's almost scary to be reminded of all the things that can go wrong etc. Ya'll know what I mean? It makes you real happy for all the times things work out right!  We are so very blessed every time one of us or our animals we have been blessed with goes through a pregnancy that ends with a happy /healthy resulting new life/lives.  New life is truly  a miracle!  Boy, was I blessed to get through seven pregnancys!  THAT KID IS TOOOO CUTE!

  • thanks you guys!!!

  • The blood and goo is normal. You'll probably be seeing that for a week or even two. Just like humans. Congratulations on your baby girl!! She looks precious!

  • Okay...she is still passing some blood and goo but doesn't seem to be having contractions at all and the baby is nursing and dry. She's eating hay and drank a bunch of water. I'm just a nervous "grandmother"...she just looked big but I guess it was all that hay she's been eating!

Here's an image I found on line. Your time line sounds right. This is the placenta of twins: and you can see where they attached. http://www.drostproject.org/en_caprep/3-9/itemtop4.html

As I understand it, goats only have one placenta.

  • You also said she's a first freshener. It is very common for them to have singles.
