On Saturday we purchased 24 bales of hay off the field for $3.00. Money is tight here and we are looking for ways to stretch our resources. We live on a 70 acre farm, 42 woods and 12 in fields. My husband used to farm the fields without chemicals. It was the wrong time to be doing this ( 25 years ago) and we were sinking more and more money into a losing proposition. He stopped farming and began to teach special needs preschoolers. limited money but at least steady.
Now we have gotten older and I have a tiny goat herd. Today on the way home from an outing with my sister we stopped at a place where the fellow had haying equipment and I asked if he might be interested in haying our fields. He came tonight and told us we had 500 plus bales there and would come and cut it Saturday weather permitting for half what we got!
He has alpacas and needs hay and our fields look perfect to him.
I am pinching myself. We will have enough for our herd and some to sell!
