What is this?

So I noticed today that two of our goats have these little red dots inside one of their ears, one more than the other. They feel dry and crusty/dusty.

What are they and are they a problem?

Sorry the pictures aren't great, had a hard time getting them.

  • The photos look like ear mites look in dogs.

  • It can be really contagious. If they seem itchy all over, they might have lice. Check under the hair for crawling dandruff. You'll usually find it around their shoulders and neck area, but you might have stare for five or ten seconds to see one crawling. If they have lice, you can just shave them all, and that'll take care of it. The lice need the hair to live.

  • Well they're constantly itchy, the whole lot of them, but I've never seem them terribly preoccupied with their ears.

I'll look into that though, thanks!

Is there any way to prevent the other goats from also getting them?
