What can I add to there water??

Neither of my goats are big drinkers but with the hot dry weather we are having I would like to see them drink a little more then usual. Does anyone have any good suggestions on something I can add to the water Pail to help make it more flavorful?

  • I use apple cider vinegar, they love it and it is very good for them.  I use 3 glugs in a 5 gallon bucket.

  • I had read an article on the benefits of apple cider vinegar for animals and for us -so tried the vinegar and honey added to their water.   They loved it.  I just mixed a little together and kept it separate so can add a bit to the bucket of water.   It is suppose to be very beneficial to the bucks especially.

Found that my doe really enjoyed honey alone added to her water at birthing.  I added it every day for a few weeks.

  • Sorry, I wasn't specific.  The cup of apple juice is apple juice - it could be straight or reconstituted.  It could also be the juice of what you juice yourself though if  you use a juicer, then half a cup would likely be as good.  If you do juice your own, you could also experiment with an apple/carrot combo to flavor the water.  Likely, it all would depend on the tastes of the particular goats.  I had not thought of using my Champion to prepare juice for the goat's water but it would work if they like the juice added for that hint of flavor and using your own fruit, you know exactly what is in it.

  • Yesterday, I gave mine a half-gallon of water with a cup of apple juice in it.  They drank half of it; I strained the leftover and put it in the refrigerator and will give them the rest tomorrow.  They love apples so I was hoping the apple juice would do it and was a bit disappointed they didn't drink it all but half is good.

    • As in frozen apple juice concentrate? That sounds good.
