Wether still peeing on himself?

We have an eight month old wether Chestnut. Recently his brisket and the back of his front legs have been wet. I've also seen him trying to pee on his head a few times. He was castrated at three months, and he hasn't been peeing on himself at all since then until now. Is there anything we can do to discourage this?

  • Well I know yesterday and the day before we had a doe in heat. I haven't paid attention to the timing coinciding with heats but I'm going to start watching for that. Hopefully he'll only do it when they're in heat.

It was cutting, and we were there so it definitely got done completely.

I'm pretty sure he's just naturally more buck-y. He's already got a nice beard and he's usually the one picking fights and fighting over the girls when they're in heat.

  • This is very unusual, but not completely unheard of. It is unlikely that he would be doing it if there were not a doe in heat.

If he also stinks like a buck, I would be worried that he was not completely castrated. If a burdizzo was used, I'd double-check to be sure the testicles have completely shrunk up. If he has no scrotum at all, I'd wonder if both testicles had descended. If a buck has only one descended testicle and that one is cut off, the other one will still make him a buck, although maybe not fertile.

  • My guess is, not likely. It is breeding season and just because they have been castrated does not mean they don't still act like men. They can still act just like human men who have been fixed. (Thank God they don't do this stuff) They just don't reproduce.

At least this is my understanding. I have never owned a wether. That is funny, I never really thought about that, weird, I have had a lot of goats, to have never had a wether.
