Water for kids

OK y'all I realize this may be my dumbest question yet...but when do kids start needing/wanting water and how do you give it to them? I use the smaller 2 gallon buckets in my barn and kidding stalls but they are raised to Mama height as I feared (with all that bouncing around!) that a kid would leap into the water and get stuck or, if it could get out, overly chilled. So how do you introduce the babies to water, when, and what container do you use?

Thanks.

  • My breeder just has buckets in her pens, and the kids haven't gotten in them before either.

  • Ok, thanks Deborah!

  • That could happen, but the only time it did happen here was with a kid that was six or seven months old, and she jumped into a water trough outside. We have two-gallon water buckets in the nursery pens, and they figure it out. They do everything they see mom do.
