  • When is her exact due date?
  • It's so interesting to see all of our different lifestyles! We live in city limits with a 4-acre wooded lot surrounded by subdivisions. Our only fenced area is the goats' small yard, and if they got away from me on a walk, I'd be afraid they'd make a beeline for my nearest neighbor's beautifully landscaped yard! No cougars, just stray dogs to threaten our well-being.

I also find that goat will follow well.  I think they feel safe if they can see me.   We walk in the woods on our own property and they will now roam off because I think they know the area so well but if I clap my hands and yell to them (come on girls) they are in a rush to follow me.  When we first started going out they stayed very close.  We try to walk every day it isn't raining.  They respond the same to my husband if he takes them out alone also.  We have had a cougar roaming so they haven't been out for a bit -makes me too nervous, even though I take a gun.

  • We take our goats for walks in our woods regularly as well. They all stay together and near us. Ive only had one time that a baby (about 6 months old) found a patch of wild blueberries and stayed behind while the rest of us kept walking. Mom's yell got baby to hurry along and leave the delicious snack she was indulging on.

  • Wow! She's big! I hope it's not more than four.

  • So sweet. Thanks for the share! My daughter and I have tried walking them on leashes, but they seem determined to tangle with each other. We've also let them roam a little (we have a small wooded lot with no fence), tempting them back to us by shaking a can of sunflower seeds. I'd love to get more confidence so they can get more exercise!

We have found where-ever we go- goats will follow. You must keep moving. If you stop, they stop. If they stop, they won't come when called but you move off- they will catch up. I take all 11 of my does/wethers into my woods/fields and they stay with me but in this picture is my friend Laurene and she takes them to a town conservation area every day- they listen fairly well. All were taught by mom's to walk with Laurene or past breeder. Try it somewhere fenced first. I started with a few leashes but quickly stopped bothering.
  • Oh- also- Laurene's goats just hop in car, hop out and they walk in the conservation - public area. Goats know to go to her if see a dog. She carries a walking stick but in years of doing this- only a few problems. I have private 54 acres- different scenario. Sometimes she comes over and we walk goats together- herds never really mingle- but are peaceful.

  • Good grief, they're cute! Can we all agree that we want our goats to follow us around in a line like that?
Sorry I can't guess but thanks for sharing. If you'd like to share further, I'd love to know if they are trained and if so, is 9 months too old to start?

  • Still 6 weeks to go? Yowza, that's alotta kids! Hope all goes smoothly.
