This is something I am always struggling with: how to tell if a goat's weight is good or not. Annie is the current problem. She is very round in the belly, and even has kind of a pot belly that hangs down. But she is 6 yrs old & has been bred many times so that could just be her body after all the pregnancy?
She feels very bony on top to me, I can feel her spine clearly on her withers and on down, can easily feel her ribs. But when people look at her they go "oh, she's fat", because she looks so round.
She is a very hairy doe- unlike her sister who is very sleek, Annie's hair is long so to look at her you can't see any boniness because it is covered up by the hair, you just see the silhouette of big belly.
She has been dewormed and her color is good so I don't think any worms are a problem.

Okay, I keep forgetting about the tail thing. I will check that when I am milking her tonight. Thanks
My Ginger is like that. I keep an eye on her tail and monitor her condition that way. If the underside of her tail is not bony, and the skin is plump but not FULL, she's just right.
