Trouble......

I'm bored and here to start some trouble..

What's everyone's favorite goat color? I personally prefer the greys like my pregnant doe I recently posted pics of. I think she is the most beautiful goat I've ever seen. I also like the reds.

I absolutely despise black and white goats, lets face it all they really are is fainting goat wanna be's!

so what colors do you guys like/dislike?

Two years ago, I would have said tri-color.  That was before!  At this very moment, it is white with gray markings but those are the newest kids.  My tiniest goat (1 lb. 10.5 oz.) has some markings that look like they were painted on so I'm always surprised to see they are still there.  Last year, my favorite was coal black with a white marking on the head and  one with brown and white pinto markings.

The truth is that, while I started out with some strong preferences, I have found there can be *no* favorite.  They are all time wasters and adorable, regardless of their coloring.  And about your guessing the color of that unborn kid, if you hit correctly, you will be among very few.  My junior doe this year had kids similar to her first litter last year but it was the same father; my senior doe had primarily black kids last year and has white kids this year, different fathers.  I, along with everyone else, awaiting your new kid(s).

  • Well - I'll chime in - I happen to love solid black - all shiny and balanced.  And I adore black and white and blue roan. I aspire to a blue roan with white!!!  Very much so!

But then - I have this white doe - actually creamy white who I thought was boring when I first got her but frankly- I'm finding her and her doeling so beautifully elegant - I am just so amazed. It is like without the colorful fireworks display - you can really see the body in a stunning way!

The goat that gets the most comments to be honest is my very splashy dark buckskin with loads of white. And I think he is adorable. I'm afraid I'd not be drawn (colorwise) to a buckskin without white but again - color is merely a bit of icing on the cake after all the important stuff.

I just need to learn to see the important stuff better as I learn.

I WILL add - that my favorite things include polled, wattles and deep brown eyes.

BUT most important before all that stuff - temperament and mothering/birthing ability - even before milk production for me!

Always fun to chat like this as it makes you ponder your ever changing thoughts and goals!

  • So cute, Julia.  :)

  • I love the chamoisee coloring! I have a doeling and a buckling from different dams this year that are chamoisee and I'm ecstatic! One is red and white with black stockings and one is tan with 3 black legs and 1 white. Adorable!

  • I love red, gold, and a nice deep chocolate. I also love moonspots. I think cou clair and cou blanc look really neat as well. My least favorites are solid black, which I think is boring, and buckskin just because I have so many already. Most of all I like variety!
  • I think all colors can be lovely.  A well conditioned, shiny coated goat with excellent confirmation is a thing of beauty no matter the color, to me.  However, I'm partial to Oberhasli coloring myself, the red and black.  Beautiful.  My other favorite is a blue roan type coloring, like this one.  I also love her 4 tan legs.  Super cute, IMO. :)
