Treating joint problems

One of my older brothers has been holding one of his legs up and limping for quite a few weeks.  I brought him to the vet, who stated that there was not hoof rot, sprain, or fracture.  He thought that the issue was in the cartilage in the shoulder joint.  This goat is not even a year old yet, so I am looking at some way to help him.  The vet mentioned 9 aspirin/ day for pain.  I know with rumens the dosage is higher, but will this dosage cause a bleed risk?

Also had anyone ever tried glucosamine or some other joint remedy on goats?  If so, what did you use and in what dosage?

  • I had almost exactly the same thing happen a year ago, although the vet did not recommend aspirin. She gave me an anti-inflammatory liquid that's labeled for dogs. Sorry I don't remember the name. I put the goat in a stall for about a month. Seemed like it took her forever to stop limping. She was a dry yearling at the time. She is in great shape now and due to kid next month.
