Tiny bit of mucous, Day 124

I am only slightly concerned (to the point of noticing a change) about this as all seems well, normal behavior, eating, drinking, etc., all fine.  Summer is at Day 124, second freshening (triplets last year), and has had a little bit of mucous the last several days.  It is not an excessive amount, just enough to be there and seems "fresh" all the time.

She might, just today, be starting to bag up but it is hard to tell as she doesn't want to stand still for me to check her, so I might have to put her on the milk stand with some grain to check her.  She has incredibly good milkstand manners, or did this year (her first).  She, in the last month, has reverted to her pre-kidding skittishness/shyness she had before she kidded last spring.

She kidded on Day 143 last year so has 20 days (three weeks) to go.  She also developed a bag at least a month before she kidded last year; one day it wasn't there at all and then a couple days later, it was huge!  Should I be concerned as long as the mucous is such a small amount (just barely covering her vulva) and none "hanging" down?   She does seem to be slightly swollen also.

  • When it's time, the mucus will be LONG. Just a bit of wet is OK. So is the swelling. My FF has been swollen since about month 3.

  • I think as Deborah said in a recent post, unless you see MUCOUS you shouldn't give it a second thought. My doe Leela is at day 132 and she has mucus every day now and is very swollen. I notice and then I try not to worry. She has no other symptoms of kidding -- she still looks "like a tabletop" (another Deborah colloquialism), she's getting so wide. She posted a pic of MUCOUS at this thread: http://nigeriandwarfgoats.ning.com/forum/topics/signs-of-labor-1
