Hi, Looking for some advice... the great fencing questions... there are coyotes and feral dogs in the area where i live which is quite rural and somewhat forested. i am considering purchasing 6' fencing, digging a trench and putting 1' of the fencing underground to prevent anything from digging under... what use is a strong fence if something can dig under? i prefer the 5' above ground height. is the underground idea 'over the top' and not really needed or is it a good safety investment for these wonderful little creatures? Your input is appreciated. Thanks, Eddie

I believe Storey's Guide to Raising Dairy Goats is the book I have that has some really good goat/predator specific fencing options, along with instructions.
thanks. great advice!

The problem will be when your fencing rots. I think most people use one or a couple strands of barbed wire on the outside ground level if they worry about animals digging in. I've heard of hot wire being used too, but you have to be able to maintain short grass under that.
