Selling bucklings

Though I am not yet ready to advertise my bucklings for sale, I had an inquiry from someone who wants to add new blood to her herd.  Not having done this before, I have no idea how to go about it.  Right now, I put a one-minute video on YouTube so she could see the bucklings.  With all the stress of the past two weeks, I'm still a bit out of it.  (Still awaiting test results on the doeling's liver.)  I really wish I could keep the black buckling, not only because he is so precious but because he is the lone survivor of quads (second born eight hours after his sister).  He also thinks he is king of the world!  He will make someone a great herd sire so wethering him would be a crime.

This is what I said about the bucks:

------------

Three Nigerian Dwarf bucklings for sale.  Complete pedigrees available to those seriously interested.  All does tested earlier this year, closed herd.

The black one is a firm $500, born April 6, 2013.  Exceptional milking lines
Sire:  Poppy Patch Crazy She Calls Me; Dam:  Capriola RB Italian Sunset.

The buckskin and broken buckskin are $250 and were both born April 7, 2013.  Good milking lines.
Sire:  Camanna GB Moonlight Legend; Dam:  VerandaBeach Summer Daze

(The brown and white paint is a doeling and not for sale.)

  • Glenna, I have been trying to think of a way to help you! You know, some selling ideas! I think that the next best thing to a website is a facebook page! Not a regular fb, but a page! You know the type that people go to and "LIKE"! I have a farm page and I think that the best thing you could do is to set one up! I would make sure I put "Nigerian Dwarfs" in the title. Maybe "VanEden Nigerian Dwarfs". At any rate you need some place that you can put all the info like pedigrees and pics were people will have it readily available for viewing at any time if you want to compete for sales in the market! You want it to be as easy as possible for them to get this info! I just don't see many people making an effort to send emails etc. about goats from an unfamiliar herd etc. These are after all your first with your herdname. I tried to find info about Crazy and Capri etc. And when you google them you don't find what you need to know to be willing to make a purchase like this. If you can set up a fb page for yours then you can post all your peds, pics, udder pics for sure! You really need those and info about how much moms produce and those pics you made of all that great cream you get and even your videos! It will be great! I love my page and have so much fun looking at all the post from all the pages that I have "LIKED! I learn so much there and get great ideas! I really think you should do this! And you can put your chickens on there! Why don't you go take a look at mine! So you can see how much I enjoy it! I am posting a link that I think will take you there if you want to see what all I have shared and posted! https://www.facebook.com/BentPennyAcresNigerianDwarfMilkGoats?ref=hl

  • Glenna, what do you know about the demand in your area? Things like price especially are very important to be based on availability and demand. And have you checked into shipping and thought about if you are willing to do that? I assume you are asking a lot more for the black buck because you don't want to sell him and still have the others. And I know you hate to part with him too, but have you thought of any plans as to how you are going to get away with that in the city with your limitations? Especially since you also want to keep your doeling?

  • I would add udder pictures. Dam of kid & dam of sire (if possible). The video is great, shows very healthy happy kids!
