Restraining buckling to band by myself

I have much experience banding my bucklings.  I have also had help with someone holding them.  Now I have to do it myself.  Does anyone know of a DIY/trick how to restrain him so I can band him myself?  I'm trying to find something I can make..

Thanks

  • okay, I know even when I have someone holding the goat I need two hands to get the band off the tool, so that I will have to figure out.

  • You're welcome!! Do a couple trial runs without the banding tool, to get the hang of how this way will work best for you. You might need to tweak it a bit before you go for it. Using your underarm as a restraint gives you the use of your hand, and makes it easier than it sounds.

  • Got it thank you Rachel  :-)

  • Between my legs. I sit on a bench, let them rest between my legs with their backs kind of hanging off the bench a bit. If I need more control of their hips, I slide myself and them forward so that less of their back is supported by the bench. (or it moves higher up on their back, I guess you could say.)

  • are their hips on you between your legs or the ground between your legs?  I'm trying to visualize.  :=)

  • I've always taken my time... never had any issues. If they wiggle too much, I let their hind ends hang off the bench a bit more, and hold tight with my arm to their heads to keep them in place.

  • oh wow, that would be too simple.  Will he hold still so I don't miss and get a teet?  would that also be for a 2-3 month buckling?

  • I just flip them on their backs, sit down on a bench, and tuck their heads under my arm pit, with their hips between my legs.
