Preparing for babies

My doe was confirmed pregnant via Biotracking (yay!) and she will be 150 days on May 15th. This will be my first kidding (her 3rd) and  I'm trying to get everything in order now so that when she kids I'll be ready. Luckily I have recently met 2 or 3 ladies in my area who are experienced goat owners so I will have someone to call if I'm unsure of something at kidding time. I think I have a pretty good handle on everything for my kidding kit except for one thing. Coccidia treatment.  None of my current goats have ever had scours (while I've had them), or even soft stools for more than a few hours (got into the chicken coop/feed) so I don't currently have any treatments one hand. I want to get some so that if I happen to run into any issues I don't have to wait for it to come by mail (local feed store doesn't carry anything but the gallon jugs).

From what I understand there are 3 different drugs, Albon (di-methox), Sulmet and Corid. Which would be the best one for me to get and what is the best way to dose them? I really don't think there is a resistance problem here because none of my goats have been treated for Coccidia before.

Here is the list of things I have in my kit, I'm a bit worried that I've forgotten something and very nervous because this is my first time. Please give me feed back on anything I need to add/remove from it.

Nutridrench for Goats

Goats Prefer Calcium Drench

Prithard Nipples

Unsulfered Black Strap Molasses

Baby wipes

Iodine

Rag towels

Probiotic paste

Lubricant

Baby Monitor

Puppy pads

Tube feeding kit

Rhinehart X30 disbudder

Phone Number to a highly recommended mobile vet

and soon to be added Coccidia treatment and 9" burdizzo clamp.

It's funny because I'm more nervous about my goat kidding than I was about labor with my human daughter lol.

  • I started this thread a long time ago... I keep the top post updated with information. http://nigeriandwarfgoats.ning.com/forum/topics/my-goat-kit

  • Okay thanks Deborah!

  • Since you only have a few goats, and there shouldn't be any resistance issues, I'd buy the smallest, cheapest coccidiosis med you can find. You will wind up throwing away most (if not all) of it when it expires. The meds are all oral, so you'll need a 3 or 6 cc syringe without a needle.

The most important things are towels and a baby monitor.
