Positive Pellett Goat Dewormer

Does anyone have any experience with this for Nigerian Dwarf Goats? I was told that it replaces the alfalfa feed in the morning and they need at least 12 hours of not eating??? This is to be given 1 a month. Then in the second feed I can give regular alfalfa..

Thanks

  • I found a lot of websites that confirm the epsom salt solution as well as youtube videos ...  just googled fecal testing and there are vets on video explaining...

  •  I was able to see a few eggs with the epsom salt solution, so I think it worked, yes.

  • So the epsom salt solution did work?

  • Plus, I'll be a monkey's uncle, I think my whole 1/2 acre is bermuda grass...... WOW....

I'm not saying you should run out and buy these things right away or anything, but here's what I use just in case you're ever in the market. They are working well for me, but I still rely on personal observation of what I'm seeing in the goats themselves more than running fecals. Some goats are very hardy and handle worms better than others.

I also don't deworm every goat at once. It will cause the resistance to happen sooner, since you'll be getting rid of all the worms that aren't resistant to the dewormer and leaving only resistant worms behind to breed even more resistant worms.

I got a microscope from Amazon, called My First Lab microscope. It was around $80, and works well enough to get an idea of what's going on. This is about as cheap and as low in quality as you can get by with. Here's the address to the microscope on Amazon:

I got something called Fecal Ova Float, fecal diagnostic kit and the Feca-med ready to use solution, both from shopmedvet.com. Here's the address to each item:

    http://www.shopmedvet.com/product/fecal-ova-float-kit/diagnostic-eq... http://www.shopmedvet.com/product/zinc-sulfate-fecal-floatation-med...

These two items really simplified the process for me! After I got them, I was much more successful at doing the fecals. The solution and the test kits will last YEARS for just a small herd, especially if you wash and reuse the little test vials.
Very best wishes to you and your goaties! :)
  • okay I'm looking at walmart.com and then to amazon and they them have up to 400x for $69 so I'm checking them out to see which is a good one..

  • I used those directions before I got the fecal kit and the solution. It did work. And yes, the microscope does work! In fact, it's the one Molly uses and recommends on the Fiasco Farm site. :) I wish it had a fine focus knob, as it is a bit hard to focus, but it does the job.
  • Wow, thank you!!!  This is where I found the DIY....> http://fiascofarm.com/goats/fecals.htm

That microscope really works?  It's now $78 LOL

  • I have info on how to do it myself, but don't have a microscope..

  • I sympathize with you on that. I have the same problem. I live 3+ hours from the nearest vet who will deal with any kind of livestock at all.
