Platform scale

We have had discussions about scales but I didn't find any specifically about platform scales.  I am looking at buying one even though they are horribly expensive, mostly because I am not sure if I can handle putting my girls in a sling to weigh them.  Because of the issue of Ginger being too "loved" to settle, it looks like I could have the same issue with my yearling since she didn't settle her first time with the buck though it could have been timing.  It won't take too many non-settling breedings to pay for the scale.  I'm not that good at judging their weight by looking at them.  Also, Summer has always looked skinny to me and everyone says she is just right so that is the "look" they need.  This scale would be my security blanket that I am judging their weight correctly.

I am looking at the VS-660 Hog/Sheep/Alpaca/Dog Scale and wonder if anyone has had any experience with it.  This is the smallest one they have but still bigger than I need, 12x24 would be better.  I contacted them and that is the smallest one.  http://www.usedscales.com/ps250_hog_&_sheep_scale.htm

  • Glad you found one.

  • Thank you,  Beverley.  I check e-Bay and found several.  I bid on one which closed today.  Apparently people are not looking for scales this time of year because I was the only bidder.  It will here in a couple of weeks.

I called the other company and they had no smaller ones.  I'm sure this one will work just fine for what I need it and much less money than the other one!

  • I will do that.  The first time I looked, there was nothing there.  Is yours for sale?  I just need something within 2-5 lb. accuracy.

  • Watch E Bay and Craigs list - we picked up a big scale for weighing probably hay bales for about 25.00 a few years ago.  Works fine for the goats but find I really don't use it much.
