Recently one of our does had a very speedy labor and delivery of two little bucklings. Six days later, our other FF, Maria, had just the opposite! Her labor was much longer, rather difficult for her, involved a 1:30 am vet call, and FINALLY ended with a little buckling! Both mama and baby were ok, but needless to say I much prefer the first does style! I've been so wrapped up in these little guys, I forgot to post a picture of the new little guy, so here he is, the little black/tan guy with the "ears"- and an update of the other little guys just for fun!

Thanks, Rachel! You know, I didn't share the details at first, I guess because I didn't think there was anything of significant importance. But now I see how this tip the vet gave us,which at the time felt quite minor and like an "I should have thought of that" moment, could possibly help someone else out in the future. It sure worked- and FAST! Don't dismiss the small stuff, I guess! Always lessons to be learned!
I absolutely LOVE your vet, and that his suggestion wasn't to dive in and start "helping"! What great information to have for the rest of us too! Nice tip for kids that don't seem to have their feet presenting!
Thanks Deborah! You're right- He is a super great vet, and his daughter as well, both farm vets. They will go above and beyond, even doing thoughtful little unexpected "extras" for the animals, will order in vaccinations etc of your choice, if they don't have it there, and really hear you when you discuss your animals health. Even calls from home on a Sunday to check and make sure we're all ok! Don't know if I'm allowed to "mention names" on here, but if anyone in or near the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia (or beyond-he likes to talk!) would like to know of a really great goat vet-ask me and I'll tell you who he and his daughter are!

Hi Julieanne and thanks! What happened was, after a long time of contractions, and then pushing and pushing, finally just a nose appeared. It seemed to just be stuck there, and she wasn't getting the kid any farther out. No feet either, to help her along with. So fearing she was getting exhausted, and not sure how much more baby could take, we called the vet. He said he was on his way to help, but in the meantime, he told us to try and get her up, and walk and move her around. He said sometimes when it's just a nose, and you move the mom, the baby will slide back in enough to "right itself" and if we could do this, maybe we'd see feet before he got here. Sure enough- we got her up and walked her, then she pushed her side into the wall and gave a few huge pushes. There were feet and a nose this time and viola!- baby boy! We called vet back, who was half way here and told him to go home and go back to bed! Mama and baby were both ok. -And yes, Rachel- first single baby was a bit big for her. Glad it's done, and looking forward to multiple and smaller kids next time! Somehow we didn't think to move her around, probably felt she was so uncomfortable and wanted to "leave her alone". But, we'll remember this for another time, just in case, and maybe it will work again.

Congratulations!! Singles are common with FF, and singles are usually bigger than babies from a multiple birth! Here's hoping she got her single out of the way, and will have more (and so smaller, easier to deliver) babies from now on!
Hi Sarah, and thanks! So sorry to hear you lost your little doeling, but thank goodness mama still has the little boys. That must have been so frustrating, to watch all that time, and have her kid as soon as you were gone! Why does that seem to happen so often??!! Best wishes to mama and her kids, and any more you may have due!
Congratulations! So glad your does and babies are doing well and no kids died. I had a first time mom surprise me with triplets. 2 girls and 1 boy. Unfortunately the last little doeling passed away. I was not able to attend the birth because mama decided to kid Easter Sunday while I was at church. She'd been showing signs of labor for 3 days. I'd stayed up every night watching her on the monitor but nothing happened. So Sunday, I decided to go to church. Silly mama. But congratulations again on your new babies! They are all super cute!
