Hi,
My name is Holly, I have two goats, one girl and one boy. They are 9 and 7 months old. My boy is a wether, I got him and his brother and both recently had a bout with UC, his brother died, but I managed to get Blue to Cornell to help with the stones. From what the vets say, they were castrated young, genetics plays a huge part and they were at the risky age 3-9 months.
Anyway, I joined mostly because of the UC and advice for that. I am so paranoid he is going to block again. I have taken him off grain(I was feeding grain with ammonium chloride) and he is on hay only. I am currently on a 7 day dose of powdered AC, which Cornell has told me to keep him on on week a month.
I am also adding ACV to his water, which may do nothing at all, but Cornell suggested it and it did lower the PH of my drinking water from 8 to about a 5-6PH, which IMO, could possibly keep Blue's urine from going over 6.5. Plus, he seems to like the taste and drinks more water. Anyway, now I am a bit obsessed and constantly looking for signs of UC. Is he eating, is he peeing.....
Of course we have a vacation planned and leave Monday for a week. I am so nervous for him, I have pet sitters and will leave all the instructions , no grain, warm water with AVC....signs to look for and a vet to take him too, but no one is going to make the 3 hour drive to Cornell if he needs to have surgery, ugh.
Anyway, I am planning to breed Midnight Smores our little girl , when she is about a year old. So I am sure I will have loads of questions for you all.

Paula, I don't think AC is harmful to give to your does... but someone with more knowledge on that could tell you for sure. I personally would dose and not worry about keeping the girls away from it.
ACV stands for Apple Cider Vinegar.

I have a 1 year old wether who lives with my does. I am concerned about calculi and have bought some Ammonium Chloride. I want to give it to him preventatively but don't know how to go about it considering that it is virtually impossible to feed them separately (such as putting it in water supply). We just brought home our first buckling and eventually the boys will live together. Anyway, any suggestions about dosage and methods of administering for purely preventative reasons? And what is ACV?
