Finally, I transferred ownership of Capri and Summer (and have my certificates back) so it is time to register Ginger. I have ten letters/spaces to work with. I considered using Moonlight as several of her grandparents have it in their names but am also considering Camanna since grandparents on both sides are from their farm. If I use Camanna, it would let me also add WA for Washington or GB from one of her grandparents. If this were your decision, what would you do? I know it seems a bit silly to ask opinions, but here I am.<g>
VerandaBeach Camanna WA Ginger, VerandaBeach Camanna Ginger, VerandaBeach Moonlight Ginger or put my herd name in there for VerandaBeach VanEden WA Ginger (or just VerandaBeach VanEden Ginger)? If she had been born on a full moon, I would use Moonlight for sure but it was a quarter moon (waxing crescent).

NO! Debbie, that's what I mean too! Wouldn't we all like to have such nice babies that people drool when they see them and just must have them for their own.
Oh no Margaret.....lol........I didn't mean drooling as to eating them........oh goodness.....lol. Just drooling with envy that Glenna will probably have some nice kids to sell.......... I need to stop posting on here when I'm tired......lol!

Oh yea, Debbie knows how to dream! Drooling, now ok. We can all live with somebody drooling over our babies on our websites! Yes!
Thanks Glenna for the clarification..........duh me, what was I thinking,.......yes, if you purchased a bred doe and are applying for her kid's registration, the first part of the name must be the herd name of the owner of the dam at time of breeding, ...I knew this, where was my head? ...please don't make me admit to getting older.....LOL!
AGS is wonderful to deal with and very helpful. Last year, I had made a few calls myself to get some questions answered that was not on their website. Oh it's not silly at all to have a herd name, with just a few goats, you never know what the future may bring. Someday you may be finding someone looking at a goat herd website of yours, drooling over pictures of your kids they may want to buy :)

Okay, the lady at AGS may think I am a nut case! Yes, I can put my herd name in her name as long as the owner's herd name at time of breeding is at the beginning. However, your question brought up the point about using Camanna in the middle of her name since that is the name of another herd. Now, to add another possibility, with the example she used it could also be VerandaBeach Ginger At VanEden, more descriptive though I like Ginger at the end of the name.
To clarify, Debbie, the beginning of the goats' name is always that of the herd name of owner at the time of breeding, not birth. She was born here but I cannot use my herd name at the beginning which was a disappointment. However, it really does make sense when I think it through as it is the breeder that determines the bloodline, not the owner at time of birth, which might be important to those seriously following bloodlines.
Yes, my herd name and tattoo are registered. Even though it seemed a bit silly to register a herd name for three goats, I could not transfer ownership without a herd name. Of course, when I have to sell babies, I want a good price for them, high enough they would be purchased by someone who can/will properly care for them and not use them for meat so I want them registered even if the buyer never plans to breed. (And if they are planning to eat them <shudder>, they will properly care for them until the end.)
If I decide on Camanna, it also would be appropriate to contact them and ask if it is okay to include their name in Ginger's name. For various reasons, a person may not want their herd name in the name of a goat if they had no part in choosing parents. While my intention is to honor the grandparents, another may do it to "cash in" on the name of a reputable herd. Currently, I have no plans to ever sell Ginger but we don't know what the future might bring.
Glenna,
I can't remember, was Ginger born at your place? If so, and you have your herd name already registered you would start with your herd name first and then her name. If she was not born at your place, her name would start with her birth places herd name. I assume that would be VereandaBeach, correct?
I'm just curious, if you have your herd name registered can you include your herd name also with the herd name of where the kids may have been born? Such as the name you are thinking about VerandaBeach VanEden Ginger? I like this name too, but don't know for sure if the registry will allow two herd names on the certificate, especially if you have your herd name VanEden already registered. This registry stuff can be confusing.....
I answered you hours ago, but I guess my answer got lost in cyber space! VerandaBeach VanEden Ginger! She is your first baby and should have that name. We are doing that too, with Penny. She is our first baby and was not bred here, so we are naming her Oldesouth' Bent Penny. Our others will be BentPenny no space as the herd name.
