As reported, months ago on here, we are doing barn renovations. In order to get all of the horses on the same side of the barn, we're building new stalls. Long story short, we'd like to turn the goat stall into a feed room because it is right next door to the tack room. This would mean moving the goats to what will become a vacant horse stall. Its the same size stall, but they would get better ventilation in the summer, which is a plus.
Here's the question --- is it okay to put goats in a stall that a horse lived in for 8yrs? Any sorts of things they can get from the horse? I didn't see it as a problem until someone brought it up to me so I thought I'd check before we go too far in our plans. Thoughts?
Thanks,

That's what I thought -- I remember reading about that once. Good point. Shouldn't be a problem then! Thank!

Don't forget, goats have been used for years as companion animals to race horses. If there were issues with that, I can't imagine how that would have been advantageous.
The funny thing is, the stall is basically the same, only instead of one open side, there are two --- more air flow. And I am going to rearrange their spools. They'll hate me for sure! And then, they'll forget all about the old ways -- hopefully! But, they don't have to worry.....probably won't move until late March anyways. Still finishing the work on the new stalls. :)

Of course, they won't like it! LOL! You're changing their whole world. But they'll be used to it in no time!
Great -- thanks Deborah!! With all of the strange things in the world of goats, I just had to be sure. Can't wait to move them now! :) They won't like it at first, but I will. :P
Thank you.

I can't think of any reason not to do this. Goats and horses don't share the same parasites or diseases. Goats being ruminants and horses being single-stomached animals makes them quite different -- a horse giving something to a goat would be along the same lines as a human giving something to a goat.
